Loose Python Safely Returned to Owner Thanks to Coatesville Community and Police
COATESVILLE, PA — The Coatesville Police Department successfully reunited a lost ball python with its owner following reports of the snake being loose near 5th Avenue and Oak Street. The department, alerted by local residents, used social media to inform the community about the escaped pet and requested assistance in locating the owner. The ball python, a commonly kept but non-venomous pet, caused initial concern in the neighborhood. However, the police quickly reassured the public and coordinated efforts to ensure the snake's safe capture. Community cooperation was key to resolving the situation, demonstrating the effectiveness of the department's community policing strategy. The police thanked everyone involved for their prompt action, which led to a safe and positive outcome.
Distracted Caregiver Charged in Drowning Death of 3-Year-Old in Chester County
TREDYFFRIN TWP — Imani Lewis, 28, of Richmond, Virginia, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment following the drowning death of a three-year-old boy under her care at Wilson Farm Park in Tredyffrin Township. Authorities allege Lewis was distracted by her phone when the child wandered off and fell into a pond. Despite rescue attempts, the child died shortly after being found. Lewis was arrested and is being held on $100,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 26.
Revised Development Plans for West Chester’s High Street Site After Parking Ordinance Changes
WEST CHESTER, PA — The developer of a proposed apartment complex at the former Burger King site on S. High Street in West Chester has revised its plans in response to new borough regulations. The borough council's recent ordinance mandates increased parking requirements for new housing developments, leading the developer to increase the number of units to 139 and the parking spots to 175. The updated regulations are more stringent than those from 2021 but less demanding than pre-2012 rules. The site, zoned as Town Center, will feature a multi-use building with market-rate apartments, with specific prohibitions on student tenants. The borough planning commission has recommended additional changes, such as underground power lines and potential SEPTA bus shelter installations. However, some local residents have organized to challenge the development, though no legal ruling has been issued.
Local Home Shines in Purple to Highlight Suicide Prevention Month
To honor Suicide Prevention Month this September, Susie Fink, a resident of Chester County, has illuminated her home in purple, aiming to raise awareness about mental health challenges and the importance of community support. This initiative aligns with Chester County's broader campaign to engage residents in meaningful acts of advocacy and awareness. By lighting her home, Fink brings attention to the resources available, such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which provides critical support for those facing mental health issues. Chester County continues to encourage residents to share their own photographs of events or displays that promote awareness, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. Photos can be submitted on the county’s official website, with selected images being featured in upcoming weeks.
