West Pikeland Volunteers Tackle Invasive Plants at Pine Creek Park

WEST PIKELAND TWP — On Saturday, a group of volunteers made significant progress in removing invasive Autumn Olive shrubs from Pine Creek Park’s riparian buffer. The effort, spearheaded by West Pikeland's Environmental Advisory Council and Parks and Recreation Department, cleared 100 feet of the 200-foot targeted area. The shrubs, known for their aggressive spread, threaten native plantings in the park. Although much was accomplished, the work is ongoing, with the next removal session planned for October 13th. Volunteers are encouraged to join, bringing tools, gloves, and protective eyewear.

Chester County Showcases Innovative Human Needs Network to State Official

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County recently showcased its Human Needs Network to Pennsylvania Human Services Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh, highlighting a new initiative focused on aiding residents facing behavioral health crises and other urgent needs. The network, supported by local contact centers for the 211 and 988 helplines, aims to connect residents with professionals who can provide targeted assistance, whether through phone support or in-person crisis interventions. Since its inception, the program has handled over 1,000 calls per month and dispatched mobile crisis teams more than 350 times. Dr. Arkoosh praised the network's holistic approach to addressing complex issues that lead to crises. Developed with input from over 50 local organizations and funded partly by the American Rescue Plan Act, the Human Needs Network represents a collaborative effort to build a more responsive support system for Chester County residents.

Immaculata University Welcomes Largest Freshman Class in Over a Decade

EAST WHITELAND TWP — Immaculata University is experiencing a period of growth, welcoming its largest new undergraduate class in more than ten years and its most diverse freshman class ever for the 2024-25 academic year. Freshman and transfer enrollments have risen significantly, while applications for graduate programs are up 10% from last year. The university's total enrollment now stands at 2,302 students, reflecting a 2% increase from the previous year. To accommodate this growth, Immaculata has expanded its residential capacity through renovations.
