Honoring the Heroes of 9/11: A Day of Remembrance and Service

WASHINGTON, PA — President Joe Biden has officially proclaimed September 11, 2024, as "Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance," urging Americans to reflect on the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and honor the memory of those lost. As part of this observance, Biden has called on governors, local leaders, and citizens across the country to participate in activities that commemorate the day.

The President emphasized the extraordinary bravery and selflessness displayed by countless Americans during and after the 9/11 attacks. He highlighted the actions of first responders and civilians who risked everything in the chaos of Ground Zero, navigating through flames and debris to rescue others. Similar courage was shown at the Pentagon, where individuals repeatedly entered dangerous conditions to help their colleagues.

In the days and years following the attacks, hundreds of thousands of Americans answered the call to serve in the military. These men and women, whom Biden referred to as the "9/11 Generation," took up the mantle of defending the nation against further threats. The President expressed profound gratitude for their service, acknowledging that their dedication has shaped the country's course in the decades since.

Peck Road Set to Reopen After Culvert Project Nears Completion in Uwchlan

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Uwchlan Township is set to reopen Peck Road by the end of this week as the culvert project reaches its final stages. The paving is complete, the guiderail has been installed, and road painting and a final inspection are scheduled. Officials thanked residents for their patience, noting that delays were primarily caused by utility work.

Upper Uwchlan Police Issue Advisory for Marshman Triathlon Traffic

UPPER UWCHLAN TWP — The Upper Uwchlan Police Department is alerting residents and commuters about potential traffic impacts on Sunday, September 15, 2024, due to the annual Marshman Triathlon. While the majority of the triathlon takes place within Marsh Creek State Park, the biking portion will extend onto public roads, including Park Road, Moore Road, Dorlans Mill Road, Route 282 (Creek Road), Marshall Road, and Little Conestoga Road.

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. with the swimming leg, followed by a rapid transition to the biking segment. While no roads will be closed, drivers are asked to be vigilant and mindful of cyclists on the road. The presence of athletes is expected to be cleared by 9:30 a.m., and police will be positioned at key intersections to direct traffic and ensure safety.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and drive carefully in the affected areas to accommodate the safety of participants and other road users.

Benches Clear as Phillies and Rays Clash Over Hit-by-Pitch Incident

PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a tense moment at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays saw their benches clear during the eighth inning of the Phillies' 9-4 win. The confrontation began after Rays reliever Edwin Uceta hit Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos with a 96 mph sinker, prompting Castellanos and teammate Bryce Harper to confront the pitcher on the mound. Uceta, who had allowed several hits prior to the incident, was ejected by the umpires, who appeared to interpret the pitch as an act of frustration.

Castellanos, aware of Uceta's rough outing, suspected the hit was intentional and told reporters he had braced for such a possibility. Despite the tension, the Phillies maintained control of the game, improving their record to 87-58. Kyle Schwarber set a new MLB single-season record with his 14th leadoff home run, though he left the game with an elbow injury and is considered day-to-day.
