Three Arrested in Overdose Death of Pregnant Woman in East Whiteland

EAST WHITELAND, PA — Three individuals have been charged in connection with the overdose death of a six-months-pregnant woman in East Whiteland Township, Chester County. The woman, found unconscious on June 5, 2024, died despite life-saving efforts. An autopsy identified a lethal combination of fentanyl, para-fluoro-fentanyl, xylazine, and methamphetamine in her system. Chester County detectives subsequently arrested Marty Jene Harrell Jr., Davonne Marquis Dutton-Norris, and Tajh Curry. The suspects face multiple charges, including drug delivery resulting in death for Harrell and Dutton-Norris. A search of a suspected drug distribution hub revealed a stash of controlled substances. All three were arraigned with substantial bail amounts and are awaiting preliminary hearings. The investigation remains active, with authorities encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

New Ownership Reverses Closure Plans for LL Flooring, Hundreds of Stores to Stay Open

EXTON, PA — LL Flooring, the retailer formerly known as Lumber Liquidators, has secured a buyer and decided to keep 219 of its stores open, reversing a prior decision to shut down all operations. F9 Investments, a private equity firm led by Lumber Liquidators' founder Tom Sullivan, has agreed to acquire the stores, a distribution center, and other assets, with the deal expected to be finalized by the end of September. However, 211 stores will still close, including 117 currently undergoing shutdown procedures and 94 that had already started the process when the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August.

Sullivan aims to bring back the Lumber Liquidators name and focus on offering fewer but more popular flooring options, while also planning discounts on remaining inventory from the bankruptcy proceedings.

Pennsylvania Stresses School Bus Safety as New School Year Begins

HARRISBURG, PA — With the start of a new school year, Pennsylvania is focusing on the safety of students who ride school buses. The state highlights the responsibilities of school bus drivers, parents, students, and motorists in ensuring safe transportation. Drivers must conduct inspections, establish positive relationships with students, and follow safety protocols for loading and unloading. Parents and students are urged to practice safety at bus stops and follow guidelines when on the bus. Pennsylvania's School Bus Stopping Law mandates that motorists stop at least ten feet away from a bus with flashing red lights and a deployed stop arm, with penalties for violations that include fines and license suspension. The state’s focus remains on cooperation among all parties to keep children safe.
