National Iron & Steel Heritage Museum Hosts 9/11 Commemoration


COATESVILLE, PA — On September 11, 2024, Coatesville's National Iron & Steel Heritage Museum will commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a reflective event among the World Trade Center Steel Tridents. The program, held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., will include bell ringing, readings, and meditation to honor those lost and celebrate the spirit of resilience. Fall Festivities and Pet Meet & Greet at Highland Orchards


DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Highland Orchards in West Chester invites the community to a Meet & Greet event hosted by All 4 Paws Rescue, offering a chance to meet adoptable dogs amid the orchard's fall activities from 12 to 2 p.m. Visitors can enjoy hayrides, apple picking, and cider donuts while interacting with the rescue’s dogs. Although no adoptions are processed during the event, approved adopters can finalize adoptions later that day. Prospective adopters are encouraged to fill out applications in advance. Chester County Planning Commission Names New Community Planning Director

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Planning Commission has welcomed Bambi Griffin Rivera as its new Community Planning Director. Rivera, who has a rich background in community development and public service, previously worked as a Guardian Ad Litem in Florida and participated in global projects supporting displaced populations and unplanned communities. Fluent in English and Spanish, she has also volunteered extensively, including teaching English and supporting local food banks. Rivera expressed her enthusiasm for working in Chester County and contributing to its vibrant community. Her leadership is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the county’s planning efforts.

WCU Biomedical Engineering Program Earns Global Recognition with ABET Accreditation


WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester University has earned ABET accreditation for its Biomedical Engineering Degree Program, marking a significant milestone for the institution as its first accredited engineering program. ABET is a global accreditor known for setting high standards in education for programs in engineering, applied and natural sciences, computing, and engineering technology. Launched in 2019, WCU’s Biomedical Engineering program offers specialized tracks that integrate engineering, biology, and medicine, and is based in the university’s advanced Sciences & Engineering Center and The Commons (SECC). The program, which graduated its first class in 2023, is set to benefit from the prestige and recognition of ABET accreditation, ensuring its graduates are well-prepared to enter fields at the forefront of medical innovation.

SBA Seeks Nominations for 2025 National Small Business Week Awards

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania District Office is inviting nominations for the 2025 National Small Business Week awards, set to be presented from May 4 to 10, 2025. The awards, including Small Business Person of the Year and Small Business Exporter, recognize outstanding contributions to local economies and communities by small businesses. Additional district-level awards highlight family-owned, minority-owned, veteran-owned, woman-owned businesses, and young entrepreneurs. To qualify, nominees must have at least a three-year track record and have received some form of SBA assistance.
