Historic Greystone Hall in West Chester Listed for $8.5 Million

WEST CHESTER, PA — Greystone Hall, a grand English Renaissance-style mansion completed in 1907, is now on the market for $8.5 million. Located near West Chester, PA, this 44-acre estate features exquisite architecture, formal gardens, and a well-preserved interior that includes a library, game room, and bowling alley. Originally built for industrialist Philip M. Sharples, the mansion has since served as both a private residence and a wedding venue, remaining largely unchanged since its construction.

Zoned for residential use but now eligible for redevelopment as a historic inn, Greystone Hall offers significant potential for adaptive reuse, with space for up to 80 rooms under new local ordinances. Its location next to a newly developed 588-home community suggests strong future demand for hospitality services. Despite its good condition, the property will require updates to meet commercial codes and connect to city water and sewer systems. Financing options and historic tax credits are available to support redevelopment. With its rich history, prime location near cultural attractions, and potential for luxury branding, Greystone Hall represents a unique investment opportunity in Chester County. West Chester Plans Upgrades for Gay Street Closure to Enhance Safety and Appeal

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Borough of West Chester is considering significant improvements to the temporary closures on Gay Street, a popular spot for open-air dining and shopping during the warmer months. Officials are proposing to replace the current concrete barriers with high-carbon steel bollards that are easier to manage and more visually pleasing. These bollards, designed to stop high-speed vehicles, would be installed on speed tables that also serve as traffic-calming devices when the street is open.

The project, expected to be completed in two phases, would initially focus on installing these barriers at key intersections such as Matlack, Darlington, and High Streets. Funded by a $700,000 grant, Phase I aims for completion in 2025. Phase II will extend the installations further along Gay Street. The proposed changes also include adding decorative elements like brick columns and maintaining all current parking spaces.

Jury to Hear Case of 84-Year-Old Charged with Murder

Uley Hines

COATESVILLE, PA — An 84-year-old Coatesville man, Uley Hines, is set to stand trial in Chester County this week for the fatal shooting of his 61-year-old housemate, Keith Boggs, following an argument in August 2023. Hines faces charges including first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence without parole if he is found guilty.

The incident occurred at the home the two men shared on Graham Avenue in Coatesville. Police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered Boggs unresponsive on the front steps with gunshot wounds to the chest. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Witnesses reported hearing an argument between the two men over a dog shortly before the shots were fired, and surveillance footage placed Hines at the scene minutes before the incident.

An autopsy confirmed that Boggs had been shot three times. Investigators tracked Hines's car leaving the area immediately following the shooting. Jury selection will begin on Monday, with the trial expected to last through the week. Judge Patrick Carmody will preside over the proceedings, which are set to explore the details of what transpired that morning in Coatesville.

Chester County Man Sentenced to Prison for Underage Illicit Images Charges

WEST CHESTER, PA — Benjamin Delaney Kitson, 23, a Chester County resident and recent graduate of Lafayette College, was sentenced to six to 23 months in prison for possessing underage illicit images. Kitson’s criminal actions were discovered when authorities linked him to illegal uploads on a social media platform dating back to his high school years. Expressing remorse in court, Kitson described his feelings of isolation during his teenage years, which he said led him to seek out inappropriate material online.

Common Pleas Judge Patrick Carmody imposed a sentence that included prison time, followed by three years of probation and mandatory sex offender treatment. Prosecutors noted that while Kitson had taken steps to turn his life around, his deliberate actions in seeking out child pornography warranted a significant penalty. The case began in 2020 when a tip led investigators to Kitson, who later confessed to the charges in 2023. Although his defense argued for leniency due to his efforts to rehabilitate, the court underscored the seriousness of his actions and the need for a strong deterrent.
