Wawa Offers Free Coffee to Teachers in 'Cheers to Classrooms' Initiative

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — To celebrate the start of the school year, Wawa is launching its "Cheers to Classrooms" initiative, providing free hot coffee to teachers and school staff from September 2 to September 15. The promotion is available at all Wawa locations in the Mid-Atlantic region, which includes Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C., following a similar launch in Alabama and Florida in August. The offer, valid in-store only, allows educators to receive a complimentary coffee by informing the cashier of their role in a local school system. Through this initiative, Wawa aims to recognize the hard work of teachers and school staff as they begin another academic year, expressing gratitude for their commitment to education and the community.

Boar’s Head Plant Cited for Repeated Food Safety Violations Amid Deadly Outbreak

JARRATT, VA — The Boar’s Head deli meat plant in Jarratt, Virginia, has come under scrutiny following a deadly listeria outbreak linked to its products. Newly released government records show that the plant violated federal food safety regulations 69 times over the past year, with inspectors documenting severe sanitation issues such as mold, insect infestations, and meat residue buildup. The outbreak has resulted in nine deaths and about 50 hospitalizations in 18 states, leading to the recall of more than 7 million pounds of deli meats. Despite corrective actions taken by Boar’s Head after each infraction, the recurrence of problems has raised concerns among food safety experts about the plant’s management and regulatory oversight. With no recent enforcement actions reported, the lack of accountability has drawn criticism from advocates and the families of victims who are seeking answers and justice.

PA Dept of Agriculture Secures Trademark for 'Farm Show Milkshakes' After Legal Dispute

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture now owns the trademark for "Farm Show Milkshakes" after a federal court dismissed a three-way lawsuit involving the Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association and R.C. Herr LLC. The legal dispute, which began in June 2023, centered on who had the rightful claim to the trademark. The Dairymen's Association argued that R.C. Herr LLC's 2019 trademark registration was invalid and that they had common law rights due to their long history of selling milkshakes at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. The Department of Agriculture also claimed rights, citing its century-long association with the Farm Show. Ultimately, the court sided with the Department, granting it ownership of the trademark. As part of the settlement, the Dairymen's Association will receive an exclusive license to use the trademark for a decade, with the Agriculture Department receiving 2% of milkshake sales made outside the Farm Show. The Dairymen's Association, known for its community-focused efforts, will continue its milkshake sales tradition while supporting charitable initiatives across the state.Share the newsletter
