Communities That Care Receives Funding to Expand Local Prevention Programs

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Communities That Care (CTC) of Greater Downingtown has secured a $4,050 grant from CCRES to support its mental health and substance use prevention initiatives. The funding will help CTC strengthen partnerships with local schools, law enforcement, and community organizations, allowing for more effective delivery of programs and resources for area families. CTC’s collaborative efforts focus on evidence-based strategies to promote wellness and youth development, making this grant a key step in enhancing those initiatives.

Chester County’s Litter Lifters Lead the Charge Against Trash

WEST VINCENT TWP — The Litter Lifters, a volunteer group in Chester County, are tackling the area's growing litter problem under the leadership of Beth Intoccia, known as the “Litter Queen of Chester County.” Starting as a small initiative in West Vincent Township, the effort has expanded across the county, supported by government and community partners. With a focus on creating a cleaner environment and improving community well-being, the group is preparing for a major cleanup in Coatesville on September 21.

Phoenix, AZ — Robert F. Kennedy Jr., running as an independent candidate, indicated in a Pennsylvania court filing that he is endorsing Donald Trump for president. The filing also requested that Kennedy be removed from the state’s ballot. In his speech on Friday he announced he would be staying on the ballot in most states but will be removing his name and endorsing Donald Trump in 10 battleground states, including Pennsylvania.

West Goshen Supervisors to Negotiate Over Contested Wawa Development

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Goshen Township is rethinking its stance on a proposed Wawa at the Parkway Shopping Center after previously denying the application. The decision to open settlement negotiations follows an appeal by the property owner, raising the possibility that the court could override the township’s rejection. By negotiating, township officials hope to impose conditions that address community concerns, such as traffic flow and pedestrian safety at a nearby intersection.

The proposed Wawa would replace an older store up the road, offering a larger 5,330-square-foot space with 16 gas pumps. Recent changes at the shopping center, including the closure of Timothy’s Restaurant, suggest preparations are underway for the development. The board’s decision comes amid worries that the court might allow the project without any township input, leading officials to seek a compromise that would enable better oversight.

Tree Collapse Splits Historic Covered Bridge in Valley Forge National Park

TREDYFFRIN TWP — A historic covered bridge in Valley Forge National Park was severely damaged Thursday after a large tree fell on it, splitting the structure in two. The Knox Covered Bridge, dating back to 1865, also brought down power lines in the area. While crews have restored service, the bridge remains closed with no estimate for reopening. The bridge has been damaged before, but this latest incident raises concerns over its long-term preservation.
