CCIU Earns 2024 Top Workplaces For The Fourth Year

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) has been awarded a 2024 Top Workplaces recognition by The Philadelphia Inquirer, marking its fourth time receiving the honor. This distinction is based on employee feedback collected through a survey by Energage, LLC, which evaluates key aspects of workplace culture such as respect, empowerment, and overall satisfaction. CCIU's consistent recognition highlights its dedication to creating an environment that values and supports its employees. This culture has led to higher engagement and reduced turnover, reinforcing the organization’s capacity to serve the community and fulfill its educational mission

Caln Township Art Show Celebrates Local Beauty at Community Day

CALN TWP — Caln Township is calling on local artists to participate in this year’s Community Day Art Show, centered around the theme “Caln Outdoors.” The event encourages residents to express their love for the township’s parks, landmarks, and other outdoor spaces through art, using media such as paint, pastels, or photography. The show is open to Middle School, High School, and Adult categories, allowing a broad range of participants to showcase their creativity.

Participants must register online by August 30th and submit their matted, unframed artwork by September 6th for display and judging. Judging will take place on September 7th at Caln Community Day, which runs from 3 PM to 8 PM at Caln Municipal Park. The event offers a chance for local artists to connect with the community while highlighting the township’s scenic beauty. Register here

“Pepper Palooza” Set for September at Downingtown Farmers Market

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On Saturday, September 7th, the Downingtown Farmers Market will present “Pepper Palooza,” a community event dedicated to celebrating the summer pepper harvest. Running from 9 AM to 1 PM, the festival will bring together over 25 local farmers and producers, offering fresh peppers in all their vibrant varieties. The event will feature a cooking demonstration and tastings hosted by the Chester County Food Bank, giving attendees a chance to discover new recipes and savor the diverse flavors of the season.

In addition to its culinary focus, Pepper Palooza will include live music, free yoga classes, and children’s activities organized by local groups. A special tasting station will allow visitors to sample different pepper varieties, from sweet to spicy.

Chester County Library Celebrates National Library Card Sign-Up Month with Family Festivities

EXTON, PA — In honor of National Library Card Sign-Up Month, Chester County Library will host a fun-filled event on Sunday, September 8th, from 1 PM to 4 PM at its Exton branch. The event invites families to enjoy crafts, face painting, STEM demonstrations, and story times, with special appearances by community guests. Visitors can also sample treats from Handel’s of Downingtown and participate in a variety of engaging activities like Touch-a-Truck and character meet-and-greets.

The celebration encourages residents to sign up for a library card, emphasizing the access it provides to a wealth of educational resources, creative programs, and community support services.

Trial Delayed for Defendant in Chester County Courthouse Shooting

WEST CHESTER, PA — The trial of Vaughn Yanko, accused of a near-fatal shooting outside the Chester County Courthouse, has been postponed due to an illness in the case. The shooting, which occurred during a brief confrontation in January 2023, left a college student critically injured. Yanko, who claims self-defense, faces charges including attempted murder. The trial is now likely to begin in September.
