Six Charged in Catalytic Converter Theft Ring Spanning Southeastern Pennsylvania

Authorities in Southeastern Pennsylvania have charged six people in connection with a major catalytic converter fencing operation that capitalized on the rising prices of precious metals during the COVID-19 pandemic. The defendants, who operated two salvage yards in Philadelphia, allegedly purchased over 1,000 stolen catalytic converters from organized theft crews. These thefts, targeting vehicles in high-traffic areas, caused significant financial damage to car owners. Investigators discovered that the defendants sold the stolen converters for substantial profits. The investigation, which involved multiple agencies, led to the arrest of the suspects, who now face numerous charges, including theft, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy.
