Rare Shark Encounter Caught on video at Cape May

CAPE MAY, NJ — Beachgoers at Cape May Point witnessed a rare shark sighting on Monday afternoon, initially misidentified as a dolphin. The six-foot shark, spotted around 3 p.m., caused a brief panic, leading people to quickly move out of the water. Chief Ben Swan of the Cape May Point Beach Patrol explained that while sharks are always present in the area, such close encounters are uncommon. Lifeguards responded promptly, clearing the water to ensure safety.

In another development, Marine Biologist Carlee Dunn from the Cape May Whale Watch and Research Center reported sightings of basking sharks near the coast. Typically found in deeper waters, these sharks' proximity to shore is unusual and indicates a thriving marine environment. Dunn reassured that sharks are following their food sources and are not typically a threat to humans

55th Annual Chicken BBQ and Bake Sale Set for August 17

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — In anticipation of the 55th Annual Chicken BBQ and Bake Sale, the first phase of the BBQ pit construction project has been finalized, enabling the cooking of 600 chicken halves on August 17. This achievement is due to the efforts of James Bruton and fellow Boy Scouts from Troop 79 of Glenmoore, who are contributing to this Eagle Scout project.

Over the past weekend, the block walls and top-cap section of the pit were installed, along with modifications to the steel chicken racks. After the BBQ event, the second phase of the project will begin, which involves constructing a vented pavilion over the pits. Details will be shared as the project advances.

Community members are encouraged to donate to support the completion of this project. Tickets for the BBQ are on sale at the firehouse, 122 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Downingtown, PA, every Wednesday evening, and can be purchased with cash, check, or credit card.
