West Chester Post Office Closed Indefinitely After Fire
WEST GOSHEN TWP — The West Chester Post Office sustained significant damage from a fire that erupted late Thursday night, resulting in its indefinite closure. The blaze occurred at the post office located on Airport Road in West Goshen Township. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
In response to the incident, retail and delivery operations have been relocated to the Southeastern Pennsylvania S&DC Post Office in Wayne. Customers are advised to present a photo ID to retrieve their mail during this period of disruption.
West Vincent Townships Implements Ban on Plastic Bags
WEST VINCENT TWP — West Vincent Township supervisors have unanimously voted to ban single-use plastic bags for businesses, a measure set to take effect in 90 days. The ordinance, developed over two years, intends to curb plastic waste and promote the use of reusable bags. Businesses are allowed to provide recyclable paper bags for a 10-cent fee, excluding purchases made with government assistance programs like SNAP and WIC. During the transition period, businesses must inform customers about the change. Additionally, the ordinance restricts the provision of plastic straws and polystyrene containers to customer requests only
Brandywine Valley Water Garden Tour to Aid Chester County Food Bank
BRANDYWINE VALLEY — The Brandywine Valley Water Garden Weekend Tour, scheduled for July 27-28, is set to offer a unique summer experience in Chester County. Originating in 2005 from a group of pond enthusiasts, this event now supports the Chester County Food Bank, thanks to a collaboration initiated in 2009. Over the years, the Tour Committee has raised more than $200,000 for the Food Bank.
This self-guided tour features over 30 properties showcasing beautiful waterscapes, including ponds, streams, and waterfalls, built by Coatesville-based Turpin Landscape Design & Build. The event not only offers a visual feast but also aids the Food Bank, with each $55 ticket translating into 26 meals for those in need. The tour will also feature a barbecue on Saturday at Turpin Headquarters. Tickets and info available here
West Chester University President Calls for Peace After Trump Assassination Attempt
WEST CHESTER, PA — In the wake of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, the president of West Chester University has called for peace and a recommitment to our country’s values. The shooting, which occurred at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, resulted in one fatality and left two others injured, prompting a rare public statement from university president Laurie R. Lorraine Bernotsky.
Bernotsky emphasized the importance of peaceful civic engagement and the fundamental principles of democracy, expressing condolences to the victims and highlighting the need for civility and respect in political discourse. She urged the university community to reaffirm their commitment to these ideals, even in challenging times.
