WCU’s Criterions Jazz Ensemble Alumni Return for Annual Concert
WEST CHESTER, PA — The Criterions Jazz Ensemble alumni from West Chester University's Wells School of Music will hold their annual free concert on July 18 at 7 p.m. in the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall. This year's performance honors the 50th anniversary of the class of 1974, showcasing jazz standards from the 1970s, including selections by Buddy Rich. The concert also celebrates the 60th anniversary of the ensemble’s founder, Lee Southall. The Criterions, one of the longest-running university jazz bands in the country, began in the 1920s as a student-led ballroom dance band and evolved into a faculty-led jazz ensemble in the early 1980s.
