Vigilante Attack in West Chester Leads to $1 Million Bail for Suspect

WEST CHESTER, PA — Ahmad Wasfi Al-Azzam, a 26-year-old from Uwchlan, Chester County, is facing severe charges after allegedly attacking a 73-year-old man in his West Chester home. Al-Azzam, who claims to target child predators, forced his way into the elderly man's house, beat him with a hammer, and coerced a false confession, which he recorded and posted online. The victim, who sustained serious injuries, was also robbed during the attack. Al-Azzam is connected to other similar assaults in Phoenixville and Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Currently held on $1 million bail, Al-Azzam awaits a preliminary hearing on July 12, while the investigation continues. Expanded Story at Daily Local News

Vacation Turned Fatal: Rip Current Claims Lives of Downingtown Couple

MARTIN COUNTY, FL — A Downingtown couple, Brian Warter and Erica Wishard, drowned after being caught in a rip current off Hutchinson Island, Florida, during a family vacation. Despite their children's attempts to help, they were overwhelmed by the strong current. Lifeguards recovered the couple and transported them to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Red flags and high-risk rip current warnings were in place at the time of the incident.

Route 30 Maintenance to Cause Traffic Delays This Week

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — PennDOT will conduct maintenance on Route 30 Eastbound from Monday to Thursday this week, resulting in a right lane closure between the Norwood Road overpass and PA Route 113. The work, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, is expected to cause traffic delays. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes through Downingtown Borough.

Pickleball Courts Grand Opening at Broad Run Park


WEST BRADFORD TWP — On Monday, June 24, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, West Bradford Township will hold a grand opening event for its new pickleball courts at Broad Run Park, 1495 Broad Run Road in Downingtown. The event, designed to introduce residents to the game of pickleball, will feature lessons and equipment provided by Next Level Pickleball. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of the game and enjoy an evening of community engagement. The event is open to all, from beginners to experienced players.
