West Chester Nonprofit Provides Essential Furniture to Those in Need

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Community Warehouse Project, a nonprofit organization based in West Chester, PA, was recently featured on 6abc News. The organization, under the leadership of CEO and Executive Director Glenda Brion, acts as a furniture bank, collecting donated furniture and houseware items from the community. These donations, which include sofas, dressers, dishes, and cookware, are then distributed to individuals and families who cannot afford to purchase these items themselves.

By redirecting furniture that might otherwise be discarded, the Community Warehouse Project makes a significant impact on the lives of many across Chester County. Many of the recipients of this service have previously experienced homelessness and are moving into new homes without any furnishings. In the past year, the organization has provided essential furniture to 486 households, helping to create comfortable and stable living environments for those in need.

Senator Fetterman Leads Effort to Address Mushroom Growers’ Concerns

WASHINGTON D.C. — Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), with Representatives Dan Meuser (R-PA) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), is advocating for Pennsylvania mushroom growers in response to a proposed USDA rule under the National Organic Program. The rule, “Market Development for Mushrooms and Pet Food,” seeks to establish standards for organic mushrooms but has raised concerns about practicality and integration into existing standards. Pennsylvania, producing more than half of the nation's mushrooms and significantly contributing to the state’s economy, is pushing for the new standards to be incorporated into the current organic crop framework to streamline processes. This initiative follows the Protecting Mushroom Farmers Act, which addresses challenges like changing weather patterns and pests, aiming to bolster protections for mushroom farmers.

State Prison for Caln Woman in Fentanyl Tragedy Involving 4-Year-Old

WEST CHESTER, PA — In a significant ruling, Amanda Owens Moore from Chester County has been sentenced to two to four years in state prison for the death of her 4-year-old son due to fentanyl intoxication. Judge Thomas P. McCabe delivered the sentence, aligning with the prosecution's recommendation and rejecting her attorney’s plea for a county jail sentence. Moore's lack of cooperation and denial of drug use were key factors in the decision. Her husband, Jason Moore, was sentenced last month to five to ten years for his involvement. The tragic incident occurred in November 2022 when their son was found unresponsive in their Caln Township home. Investigations revealed that the child had been exposed to fentanyl brought home by Jason Moore. The couple, both regular drug users, had seven other children living in their home at the time

Inflatable Costume Race Brings Fun End to School Year in North Coventry

NORTH COVENTRY TWP — In North Coventry Township, teachers at North Coventry Elementary School marked the end of the school year with a delightful inflatable costume race. The event featured teachers and the principal dressed as various whimsical characters, including aliens, chickens, unicorns, and sharks. Students enthusiastically cheered as their educators stumbled and flopped their way to the finish line, with some barely making it across. The race, captured from above by Chopper 6, provided a joyous and humorous conclusion to the school year, emphasizing the strong sense of community and camaraderie at the school.

Record-Breaking White Perch Caught Outside Philadelphia

hilChristopher Barrett and his record-breaking catch

CHESTER, PA — Christopher Barrett, fishing with his father Craig in Chester, caught a white perch that has set a new Pennsylvania state record. On April 14, the duo launched their boat from Ridley Township Municipal Marina and fished near the Commodore Barry Bridge. Using heavy-duty gear, Barrett reeled in a white perch that weighed 2 pounds, 1 ounce, surpassing the previous record set in 2008. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission verified the catch, measuring it at 14.125 inches long with a 12.25-inch girth..
