New Housing Initiative in Coatesville Supports Homeless Residents

Executive Director Andrew McNeil Jr. and Raelyn McNeil

COATESVILLE, PA β€” A newly renovated duplex on Merchant Street in Coatesville now offers housing to three men who were previously homeless, marking a significant achievement in the community's efforts to combat homelessness. The renovation, led by the W.C. Atkinson Memorial Community Service Center with the help of volunteers and local organizations, provides a stable living environment with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to offer transitional housing and supportive services, with funding provided by an American Rescue Plan Act grant from the Chester County Commissioners.

Peck Road Project Delayed Indefinitely Due to Water Main Issue

Detour.

UWCHLAN TWP β€” The Peck Road project in Downingtown has encountered significant delays following the discovery of a mismarked water main that must be relocated by Aqua, the local water utility company. This relocation requires permits from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), which has pushed the project's completion date indefinitely.

The township is working closely with Aqua to expedite the necessary work and ensure minimal disruption to residents. In the meantime, detours remain in place, and residents are encouraged to check the township's website for updates.

State Trooper Pleads Guilty in Road-Rage Incident, Faces Probation

David Levy

WEST CHESTER, PA β€” State trooper David Rubin Levy has pleaded guilty to charges of recklessly endangering another person and possession of an instrument of crime following a road-rage incident in December 2022. Levy, who was off duty at the time, forced another vehicle off the road near Longwood Gardens, brandished a firearm, and discharged it during the confrontation. He has been sentenced to two years of probation, ordered to take anger management classes, and prohibited from contacting the victims.

Levy, who joined the Pennsylvania State Police in February 2021, has been suspended without pay and is anticipated to be dismissed from the force due to his conviction. The incident involved reckless driving on Route 1, where Levy's actions nearly caused multiple collisions. Witnesses reported his aggressive behavior, and the victims recorded significant parts of the encounter.

A search of Levy's vehicle revealed a bullet hole and a 9mm shell casing, confirming the discharge of his weapon. It was also determined that Levy had been drinking earlier that evening. The case highlights the serious consequences of reckless and dangerous behavior by law enforcement officers.

Two Chester County Men Guilty in Unusual Sexual Assault Case

WEST CHESTER, PA β€” Johnathan Fields and Naseem Roberson were found guilty of a complex sexual assault on a woman. The incident, which occurred on July 6, 2022, involved the woman visiting Roberson at a relative's house, expecting to meet only him. However, she encountered both men and explicitly stated she did not want to have sex with Fields. Despite this, Fields engaged in non-consensual sex with her while Roberson manipulated the situation to facilitate the assault.

The trial, presided over by Judge Patrick Carmody, concluded with both men convicted on all counts, including recklessly endangering another person and possession of an instrument of crime. The judge revoked their bail, and they were taken into custody pending sentencing, where they face a minimum of three years in state prison.
