Chester County FOP Lodge #11 to Honor Fallen Officers in Annual Memorial Service

WEST CHESTER — On May 9th, Chester County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #11 will host a memorial service at 218 N. Church St., West Chester, to honor 10 fallen local law enforcement officers. The event will include speeches from local and state FOP representatives and the newly elected District Attorney, along with musical tributes and a reading of the fallen officers' names. The community is invited to attend the service, which will also feature a reception and opportunities to support the Lodge's Foundation.

Downingtown Launches Resilience Fund to Tackle Flooding and Disasters

DOWNINGTOWN — In Downingtown, Pennsylvania, a collaborative initiative among local municipalities has led to the creation of the Downingtown Resilience Fund. This fund is designed to provide swift financial aid to disaster victims, particularly those affected by regular flooding, with $750 relief checks distributed directly to bypass red tape. Additionally, the initiative includes the development of infrastructure projects like an elevated creek walk along the Brandywine River to double as a recreational path and a flood barrier, aiming to enhance disaster resilience in the community.

KING OF PRUSSIA — The 127th annual state conference of the Pennsylvania State Society Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the Alloy Hotel in King of Prussia, attended by over 400 members from 94 chapters. The conference highlighted the DAR's commitment to community service, education, and historical preservation, including efforts to restore the Old Swedes Cemetery. The agenda included award presentations, educational workshops, and support initiatives like scholarships for Native American students and the "Rucksacks to Backpacks" program for military families. The conference also celebrated the achievements of junior members and featured a banquet with musical entertainment.

Coatesville Initiates Free Swim Program for Early Childhood Water Safety

COATESVILLE — In a collaborative effort to promote water safety, the Coatesville YMCA and the Coatesville Area School District are providing free swim lessons for children in Pre-K to second grade. WEST CHESTER — At the recent Breakfast of Champions event, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine honored its volunteers who dedicated over 78,000 hours in 2023 to various community initiatives. The event featured awards for key contributors such as the Chester County Intermediate Unit, the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry, and Donna Urian, acknowledging their roles in supporting YGBW’s mission. The celebration underscored the vital role of volunteerism and financial donations in sustaining programs that benefit children, teens, and seniors across the community.

Candlelight Vigil in Downingtown Honors 181 Victims of Violence

DOWNINGTOWN — At Kardon Park in Downingtown, the Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County held a memorial service to honor 181 victims of violence. The 33rd Annual Candlelight Vigil and Memorial Service, part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, was attended by about 100 people who participated in a candlelight ceremony. The event featured the reading of each victim's name and included emotional testimonials from the bereaved, musical tributes, and remarks from community leaders, emphasizing the enduring impact of loss and the community’s commitment to supporting each other and pursuing justice
