Aqua Pennsylvania Undertakes Major Infrastructure Upgrade in Chester County

FLUSH.

Aqua Pennsylvania is embarking on a substantial infrastructure upgrade in Chester County, focusing on the installation of approximately 17,000 feet of water mains across West Brandywine and Caln townships, along with Downingtown Borough. Utilizing nearly 90% recycled materials, the company aims to enhance water flow and service reliability for customers in the region.

The project involves laying new ductile iron water lines, with crews concentrating on two primary areas: West Brandywine Township and Downingtown Borough/Caln Township. In West Brandywine Township, approximately 8,600 feet of 12-inch ductile iron mains are being installed along Manor Road and Hibernia Road.

Meanwhile, Downingtown Borough and Caln Township are undergoing a phased project, with nearly 8,500 feet of 16-inch ductile iron mains being installed. Key areas of focus include Rock Raymond Road, Manor Avenue, and Lloyd Avenue, where the infrastructure upgrade aims to enhance water distribution capabilities.

Chester County Science Fair Showcases Student Talent and Passion for Science

The 2024 Chester County Science Research Competition saw students from 53 schools across the county converge at the West Chester University Student Recreation Center. Over 380 students participated in the event, sponsored by CCRES, AGC Chemicals, the Children’s Fund of Chester County, and Phillips Mushroom Farms. Divided into two segments, the competition featured the Dr. Lucy Balian Rorke-Adams Fair for grades 6-12 and the Dr. Jonas Salk Fair for grades 4-5.

With volunteer judges representing various industries, students presented their research findings across 15 categories, engaging in interviews to articulate their work effectively. The event aimed to push students beyond their comfort zones and expose them to potential mentors and career paths in STEM fields.

Following a day of competition, both fairs concluded with an open house, allowing students and their families to explore all the projects. Winners from the Salk Fair were awarded during the evening, while winners from the Rorke-Adams Fair will be celebrated at a separate ceremony. High school winners will advance to the Delaware Valley Science Fairs in April. More about CCSRC here

Former Officer Admits Wrongdoing in Gun Incident with Daughter's Boyfriend

Matthew James Troxell, a former City of Reading police officer, pleaded guilty in Common Pleas Court to charges stemming from an incident involving his daughter's boyfriend. Troxell held a gun to the boyfriend's neck after finding them outside his Chester County home past midnight, breaching house rules. Accompanied by family, Troxell did not address the judge, but his attorney described the situation as unfortunate. Under the plea agreement, Troxell will serve four years of probation, forfeit his handgun, undergo anger management, assessments, and have no contact with the victim, Seth Miller. Miller, residing in Texas, and the investigating state trooper expressed satisfaction with the outcome. Troxell, who was off duty during the incident, has been terminated from the Reading police force.

Netflix Plans Launch of Netflix House Venue at King of Prussia Mall in 2025

Netflix intends to launch a Netflix House venue at King of Prussia Mall in 2025, incorporating a restaurant, retail store, and multipurpose space for themed events inspired by its popular shows. Pending approval from the township's planning commission, the project aims to transform the former Lord & Taylor department store into an entertainment destination.

The proposed Netflix House would offer escape rooms, mixed reality games, art installations, live events, and immersive theater performances, along with screenings, fan meet-and-greets, and reunion events featuring actors from Netflix series. The initiative mirrors Netflix's successful pop-up events and aligns with media companies' strategies to build fan communities around their brands.

The project, recommended for approval by the planning commission, awaits review by the township's Board of Supervisors in April. If greenlit, Netflix House would join King of Prussia Mall's array of retailers, which is expected to expand with about 20 new stores this year and the introduction of an Eataly outpost next year. Despite industry shifts towards online shopping, the mall continues to thrive as a retail hub.
