Improving Safety and Services: Coatesville Fire Department Centralizes Operations

Coatesville City Council's recent four-to-one vote approves the centralization of fire services at the Washington Hose Company, marking a shift from the current arrangement with the West End Fire Company. Starting April 1st, the Coatesville Fire Department will station all personnel and equipment at 376 East Lincoln Highway. This strategic move aims to improve coordination between fire and emergency services, offering enhanced safety for firefighters and improved services for residents. The decision aligns with the city's broader plan to create a fire and medical service hub, with the prospect of hiring ten new firefighters by 2025 and plans for a new fire station and public works facility.

Chester County Kidnap Attempt: Coatesville Man to Face Common Pleas Court

Vincent Maxwell Hazzard, a 52-year-old Coatesville resident, is set to face trial in Common Pleas Court for charges stemming from an attempted kidnapping incident in West Chester. The preliminary hearing, featuring testimony from the now 9-year-old victim, unfolded details of the August 16 incident when Hazzard allegedly entered the boy's home through an unlocked door. Hazzard faces charges including burglary, kidnapping a minor, and criminal trespass and has been held in Chester County Prison on $100,000 bail since his arrest in February. Despite spending time in a drug and alcohol treatment program between the filing of charges in October and his arrest, Hazzard's motive for the alleged kidnapping attempt remains unclear. Assistant District Attorney Madeline Troutman is prosecuting the case.
