State's LIHEAP Program Offers Heating Assistance to Chester County's Low-Income Residents

Chester County's Working Poor, often overlooked, faces challenges despite the county's wealth surge. In recognition of this disparity, the State's government, under the leadership of the Shapiro administration, has reinstated the annual Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This federally funded initiative primarily aids low-income Pennsylvanians in covering their home heating costs during the harsh winter months. The LIHEAP crisis grant targets those at risk of heating service termination, facing broken heating equipment, or running out of deliverable fuel like oil, propane, coal, or wood. The grant ranges from $25 to $1,000.

During the last LIHEAP season, over 312,000 households in Pennsylvania benefited from $125 million in LIHEAP cash assistance, averaging around $400 per household. Additionally, more than 135,000 households received crisis benefits averaging $688.
