Downingtown Area School District Initiates 2023-24 Strategic Planning Process
The Downingtown Area School District (DASD) is embarking on a collaborative strategic planning journey for the 2023-24 school year. In partnership with Performance Fact, Inc., this initiative seeks to unite all stakeholders behind a cohesive vision, shared objectives, and a unified path forward in advancing the district's educational endeavors.
Child Safety Protection Month: Sheriff’s Office and GRANDFamily Connections of Chester County Collaborate for Safety
November is Child Safety Protection Month, and two dedicated local organizations, the Chester County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and GRANDFamily Connections of Chester County ("GRANDFamilies"), are teaming up to provide safety tips and resources for this important awareness month.
The CCSO and Grandfamilies offer the following tips to help protect children:
Schedule an appointment for a free child carseat inspection on a Tuesday morning, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., with the CCSO at the Justice Center parking garage by calling 610-344-6139. Travel safely.
Drop unused prescription medications at the collection box in the lobby of the CCSO in the Justice Center, 201 W. Market Street, West Chester. Prevent young children and teens from getting your old drugs accidentally or deliberately.
If you or a child is being harmed in your home, call 9-1-1. Children who see a loved one being hurt in their home experience trauma.
For peer support or to join a GRANDFamily support group, contact Deborah Willett at 610-246-2261 or [email protected].
Both the CCSO and GRANDFamilies aim to create safer environments for children in informal living situations, like those with grandparents, aunts, neighbors, or other caregivers. Their collaborative efforts provide much-needed resources and support to protect and nurture these young lives.
Advocacy Group Slams Plans to Enclose Chester County Prison Yard Following Inmate's Escape
Plans to enclose an outdoor area of Chester County prison with solid walls and a roof following an inmate's escape have faced criticism from the Pennsylvania Prison Society. The advocacy group argues that this approach is costly and misguided, potentially harming inmates by depriving them of sunlight and fresh air. They believe the plan doesn't address the root problem, which is the shortage of corrections officers.
The executive director of the advocacy group, Claire Shubik-Richards, emphasized the need to focus on addressing staffing issues rather than merely enclosing the prison yard. Chester County Commissioner Josh Maxwell stated that the plan is still in the design stage and that discussions with the prison society would take place. Maxwell also highlighted the opportunity to improve inmates' and staff members' quality of life while enhancing security measures following the high-profile escape.
Phillies Beat Marlins in NL Wild Card Series, Advance to Face Braves in Division Series
The Philadelphia Phillies secured a convincing 7-1 victory over the Miami Marlins, completing a sweep of the NL Wild Card Series. The win was fueled by Bryson Stott's grand slam and Aaron Nola's impressive seven shutout innings. The Phillies are now set to face the Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series, looking to replicate their previous postseason success against their rivals. This victory reflects the Phillies' postseason potential and sets the stage for an exciting playoff run.
