Blockson Memorial Service at the Temple Performing Arts Center and was subsequently taken to Temple University Hospital, where she passed away. The cause of her sudden death was not immediately disclosed. JoAnne Epps had assumed the role of Acting President in April, succeeding Jason Wingard. She had expressed a commitment to addressing enrollment and safety concerns during her tenure. Her unexpected death is deeply mourned by the Temple University community and the broader Philadelphia area.

Chester County Prison Enhances Security Measures Following Inmate Escape

Officials from Chester County Prison revealed security enhancements made after two inmates, including Danelo Cavalcante, escaped. Cavalcante, a convicted murderer, escaped by climbing onto the roof. The prison added metal mesh, razor wire, motion cameras, and more guards to prevent future escapes. Despite these measures, officials remain cautious, as inmates may attempt further escapes. During his escape, Cavalcante eluded authorities by moving at night and using stream water and a stolen watermelon for sustenance. His capture involved thermal imaging and heavily armed agents. Cavalcante was arraigned on an escape charge and returned to prison to serve his life sentence.

It's the first park of its kind in the area, dedicated to providing seniors with a unique recreational experience. The park, named after Ted Gacomis, who served as the Township Engineer for more than thirty years, features amenities like bocce courts, pickleball, gaming tables, exercise equipment, and wheelchair-accessible walkways. Active Transportation Plan Public Workshop Schedule Next Week

Upper Uwchlan Township will host an Active Transportation Plan Public Workshop on September 27, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Barn at Upland Farm, 301 Pottstown Pike, Chester Springs 19425. The event will include an open house with project boards and a presentation at 7:30 p.m., with light refreshments available. The workshop aims to engage the public in discussions regarding the Active Transportation Plan - Draft Report, allowing for feedback before and after the meeting.

Used Bike and Sewing Machine Drive to Help Developing Nations

The Chester County Solid Waste Authority will host a Used Bicycle and Sewing Machine drive in support of the organization Pedals for Progress on October 29, 2023, at the West Goshen Municipal Complex. The event provides an opportunity for people to donate gently used bicycles and sewing machines to benefit those in need and improve economic conditions. Donations are tax-deductible, and Chester County residents have already contributed over 130 bicycles and sewing machines, along with $2400 for shipping to Pedals for Progress' partner countries.
