Homecoming Celebration Turns Deadly at Lincoln University

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA — A shooting during homecoming festivities at Lincoln University on Saturday night left one man dead and six others wounded in what authorities now believe involved multiple gunmen, shattering what should have been a celebratory evening at the historic Pennsylvania campus.

The violence erupted shortly before 9:30 p.m. near the International Cultural Center, where crowds had gathered following a homecoming football game. Juwan Jeffers, 25, of Wilmington, Delaware, died shortly after midnight. The six surviving victims, ranging in age from 20 to 25, are all expected to recover. Among the wounded were one current student and one alumnus, while the others had no campus affiliation.

Chester County District Attorney Chris de Barrena-Sarobe said Sunday that evidence suggests multiple shooters were involved, though investigators do not believe the gunmen arrived intending to cause mass casualties. Police arrested Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, 21, of Wilmington, at the scene on charges of carrying a firearm without a license. He is being held on $25,000 bail, though authorities have not yet determined whether his weapon was used in the shooting.

The district attorney described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted in a packed parking lot, with emergency responders struggling through gridlocked traffic to reach victims. Even an hour after the initial shots, campus police were still locating wounded individuals. Investigators are appealing for video footage from witnesses to help reconstruct events.

Lincoln University, the nation's first degree-granting historically Black college or university, announced it would suspend classes Monday for a day of healing. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro offered full state support for the investigation and mourned the tragedy that marred a weekend meant to celebrate the institution's legacy. Counseling services have been made available to the campus community.

Suspect in Lincoln University Shooting Carried Mother's Gun, Documents Say

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA — The man arrested after a fatal shooting at Lincoln University's homecoming was carrying his mother's loaded pistol without a permit, according to court documents. Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, 25, of Wilmington, Delaware, told police he had driven to campus with the Glock 28 and kept it on his person throughout the evening.

A Lincoln University officer spotted Morgan-Thompson holding the weapon shortly after gunfire erupted near the International Cultural Center around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The shooting killed a 25-year-old man and wounded six others, including a current student and an alumnus.

Morgan-Thompson faces a felony charge and is being held on $25,000 bail. Investigators are testing his weapon to determine if it was used in the shooting. Authorities believe multiple shooters may have been involved but do not think the violence was a planned mass attack. (from Newsbreak)
