Uwchlan Halloween Race Raises Support for Chester County Food Bank

UWCHLAN TWP β€” Uwchlan Township held its first Halloween Race last weekend. Runners, walkers and families came out in costume for an event that combined a timed 5K with a best-dressed contest. The Parks and Recreation Committee organized it, and the township thanked participants, especially those who donated to the Chester County Food Bank.

In the men’s 5K, Sam M. finished first in 24:24, just ahead of Bill M. at 24:45, with Michael L. third in 33:50. Ada L. won the women’s division in 34:00, and Wes C. won the youth division for runners under 18 in 51:00. Prizes also went to the best costumes. The race is now on the township’s calendar and could become a yearly Fall event.

Dorlan Mill Road Closed Through Thursday for PennDOT Repairs

UPPER UWCHLAN TWP β€” PennDOT is doing base repair work on Dorlan Mill Road in Upper Uwchlan Township. The section between Longfields Way and Route 282 (Creek Road) is closed from Tuesday, Nov. 3, through Thursday, Nov. 5. The closure is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

Through traffic is being detoured onto Shelmire Road and Creek Road, but people who live or work along the affected stretch can still get in and out. Township officials advised drivers to plan their routes in advance and leave extra time, because delays are likely in the area while crews are working.

Caln Residents Can Now Watch Beaver Creek’s Water Levels Online

CALN TWP β€” Caln Township is pointing residents to a U.S. Geological Survey stream gauge in Lloyd Park that tracks Beaver Creek’s height and flow in real time. The gauge is one of a network of monitoring sites whose data helps forecast flooding and other stormwater effects.

Stormwater runs off roads, buildings and other hard surfaces into local streams such as Valley Run and Beaver Creek. The gauge lets residents see how the creek responds during and after a storm. Its readings are public at waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/USGS-01480777, and the USGS lets users sign up for alerts from specific gauge sites.

New Good2Know Episode: A Downingtown Dad's Fight Against Sanfilippo Syndrome

DOWNINGTOWN, PA β€” A new episode of Good2Know in Chester County features Mike Dobbyn, a Downingtown father and rare disease advocate. His son Connor, now almost 18, was diagnosed in 2019 with Sanfilippo Syndrome, an incurable genetic disease often called childhood Alzheimer’s, after years of incomplete diagnoses.

Mike explains how rare disease families often have to raise research money themselves. His family’s 2020 short film, Save Connor, made with the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation, helped get their fundraising started. Local businesses have supported them through restaurant nights and a yearly Designer Purse Drag Queen Bingo, and all proceeds go toward a clinical trial for a cure. Mike also started the Sanfilippo Project interview series and hosts the Rare Dads Roundtable, an international support group for fathers.

A former Wall Street trader and financial advisor, Mike now runs Downingtown Tax Group with his father and his wife, a setup that lets him stay close to Connor. He credits the Owen J. Roberts school staff for their daily care of his son and says his weekly soccer league helps keep him going.
