EAST BRANDYWINE TWP — On Saturday, May 30, East Brandywine Fire Company and Minquas Fire Company No. 2-EMS will co-host a Community CPR Day at the Witmer Center, 2096 Bondsville Road, Station 46. The collaborative event is designed to equip local residents with essential life-saving skills, including CPR and basic first aid, through certified, hands-on instruction.
Two training sessions will be held — one from 10 a.m. to noon and a second from 2 to 4 p.m. — and the event is open to participants of all experience levels. No prior training is required. Those who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion. With seating limited across both sessions, organizers are urging interested residents to sign up as soon as possible to secure their spot.

False Alarm: Active Threat Report at Downingtown Middle School Determined to Be Fabricated
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Police Department has concluded its initial assessment of a reported active threat at Downingtown Middle School and determined the report to be false. Authorities moved swiftly to identify all individuals connected to the incident and confirmed that neither the school nor the surrounding community faces any danger.
The department is conducting its ongoing investigation in partnership with the Downingtown Area School District, signaling a coordinated response between law enforcement and school officials. While details surrounding the origin of the false report have not been publicly disclosed, Pennsylvania law treats the filing of false emergency reports as a serious criminal matter.
SALT Performing Arts Brings Tarzan the Musical to the Stage This April, with a Side of Community Good

CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — SALT Performing Arts is set to open Tarzan the musical next week, launching a run that continues through April 26. The production tells the story of a boy orphaned on the West African coast and raised among gorillas, and features aerial choreography from Grounded Aerial — an element that is expected to bring a dynamic, physical energy to the storytelling.
The production also carries meaningful community impact. In keeping with a ten-year partnership between SALT and the Chester County Food Bank, non-perishable food donations will be accepted at the venue during every performance of the run, with organizers asking that donors refrain from bringing items in glass containers. Additionally, one dollar from every ticket sold will be contributed directly to the food bank — linking the act of attending live theater to the broader effort to combat local hunger. Full details and tickets can be found at saltpa.com/tarzan.
Caln Township Spring Chipping Program Opens for Registration April 1, Spots Limited

CALN TWP — Caln Township is set to open registration for its Spring Chipping Program on April 1, giving residents a monthlong window to secure a spot before trucks begin their rounds on May 4. Registration is handled exclusively by phone through the Public Works Department at 610-384-0600, ext. 140, and closes April 30.
Once chipping begins, crews will work through participating addresses throughout May, stopping curbside to process branches that have been properly prepared. To qualify, branches must be stacked neatly — without cross-stacking — with cut ends facing the street, and must not exceed six inches in diameter. Stumps, vines, weeds, and yard waste of any kind will not be collected. Each property is limited to a 15-minute stop, and late set-outs or oversized piles will not be accommodated.
