Fox 29 Features Campus Radio Host Rewriting the Script on Men's Mental Health

WEST CHESTER, PA — Gavin, a graduating senior at West Chester University, is finishing his college career as a well-known presence on campus and an unexpected voice in the conversation around men's mental health. Born without arms or legs, he grew up playing football and built a love of sports that eventually led him to the student radio station, where he hosted a sports-focused show for much of his time at the university.

This past year, he and a co-host he met at an on-campus counseling center decided to retool the program. The two felt that men's mental health, especially among Black men, had quietly slipped out of the broader public conversation, and that many of the men in their lives had been taught to suppress what they were feeling until it became too much to carry.

Their Friday afternoon broadcasts now serve as an open forum, with the phone lines available to listeners who want to talk. The hosts describe the show as a space free of judgment, built on the idea that if two friends can speak honestly about what they are going through, others might find it easier to do the same. As Gavin graduates, his co-host will continue the program, and Gavin hopes the show will keep reaching listeners who benefit from hearing those conversations out loud.

Caln Township's Art in the Park Series Heads Outdoors With Urban Sketching
