Downingtown Moves Its Fireworks to Make Room for Three Young Eagles
DOWNINGTOWN, PA β A nest of three young bald eagles in Downingtown's Kerr Park has captured local attention and reshaped the borough's Fourth of July plans. Park supervisor Lexi Law named the eaglets Liberty, Independence and Freedom in honor of the park's flag and the country's 250th anniversary.
After the chicks hatched, the borough installed fencing on the game commission's instruction, citing strict federal and state protections for the species. Although Pennsylvania's eagle population has grown markedly in recent years, the birds remain protected by law. Concerned that fireworks could startle the eaglets and knock them from the nest, officials are moving the annual display to a yet-to-be-determined location. The nest, meanwhile, has become a daily draw for residents who come to photograph the birds and watch the adults feed their young.
Yellow Springs Plans a Free Afternoon of Music and History for America's 250th

CHESTER SPRINGS, PA β Historic Yellow Springs in Chester Springs, Pa., is inviting the public to "Dare to Declare!," a free afternoon of music and history on Sunday, June 7, from 3 to 6 p.m. The event is part of the 28th annual Jazz at the Springs celebration and is being staged in recognition of the country's 250th anniversary.
The program is designed to bring together several threads at once: live jazz performances, a public reading and discussion of the Declaration of Independence, and time for reflection on the nation's founding. Attendees will also find food vendors, family-friendly activities and the broader sense of community that the historic village aims to foster. Admission is free and open to everyone, and organizers say the gathering will proceed rain or shine.
WCU Hosts Daylong VETFEST for Veterans and Families

WEST CHESTER, PA β West Chester University will host VETFEST, a daylong event designed to connect veterans, service members and their families with support services and community partners, on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sykes Student Union Center.
The gathering blends practical resources with a celebratory feel. A car show featuring more than 100 vehicles will be a centerpiece, alongside over 30 vendors and community resource tables. Visitors can get help enrolling in Veterans Affairs programs and understanding their benefits, and can access healthcare, legal aid and other support services. The day is also intended to foster networking among veterans and the organizations that serve them. Families are welcome, with food and family-friendly activities including children's games, face painting and a balloon artist.
Uwchlan Township Opens Applications for Parks Planning Committee

UWCHLAN TWP β Uwchlan Township is inviting residents to serve on a volunteer advisory committee that will help guide the creation of its Comprehensive Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan. Committee members will contribute ideas, provide feedback and help identify priorities for parks, trails, recreation programming, open space preservation and community programming.
The planning process is expected to address a broad set of topics, including park improvements, trail connections, recreation programming, accessibility, sustainability and future community investments. Township officials frame the committee as an opportunity for residents to shape the community's long-term direction, improve recreation opportunities and represent the needs of their fellow residents. The committee is open to all township residents, and applications are being accepted now through June 30 through the township's online form.
