EAST GOSHEN TWP — County authorities are investigating a shooting that left a woman in her 40s dead and a 9-year-old girl hospitalized Friday morning at the Summit House condominium complex in East Goshen Township. Police responded to the 400 building shortly before 11 a.m. and found the girl, who was conscious, suffering from a gunshot wound; she was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officers later found the woman dead inside the residence. Investigators have not disclosed what led to the shooting, and the woman's name is being withheld pending notification of her family. The incident prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order and the closure of the complex's pool and clubhouse, which officials described as precautionary rather than a response to any continued danger. HARRISBURG, PA — Chester County will receive close to $1.78 million in state funding across six municipal projects aimed at modernizing traffic signals and reducing congestion, part of a $38 million statewide distribution from Pennsylvania's Green Light-Go program. Tredyffrin Township secured the county's largest award, $639,400, to upgrade vehicle detection at eight intersections along Lancaster Avenue, Bear Hill Road and Leopard Road. East Whiteland Township will receive $363,700 for equipment upgrades near Route 202 and Lincoln Highway, while West Pikeland Township will fully modernize the intersection of Routes 113 and 401. Penn Township, Downingtown Borough and Sadsbury Township also received smaller awards for detection improvements at local intersections, including three Lancaster Avenue crossings in downtown Downingtown. The grants are part of a broader $134 million investment by the Shapiro administration since taking office, during which more than 1,700 signals have been upgraded statewide. State officials say the program reflects an ongoing partnership with municipalities to improve safety and traffic flow, alongside a separate $775 million budget commitment for road repairs over the next two years.

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Farmers Market will celebrate the peak of tomato season with its annual Tomato Fest on Saturday, August 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Kerr Park. More than 35 local farmers, producers and makers will be on hand, with an emphasis on locally grown tomatoes in varieties ranging from cherry to heirloom to slicing. The free event kicks off with a strength-training session at 9:15 a.m. and a yoga class at 10 a.m., both open to attendees. Children's activities will run throughout the morning in partnership with Young Rembrandts Chester County, Downingtown Recreation and Agconnect, while live music from Tom Wagner will set the tone for the event. UPPER UWCHLAN TWP — Downingtown's Public Works Department will close a section of Moore Road on Monday, August 10, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to carry out repairs. The closure affects the stretch between Turnstone Lane and Founders Way; no homes are located within that section, but residents on either side will need to use Park Road or Dorlan Mill Road to get around the closure. Borough officials say the work is expected to be completed within the single day and have asked residents for patience during the temporary disruption.
