CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — This Sunday in West Pikeland Township, the Great Pumpkin Classic will bring a playful twist to autumn fun. With free registration (limited to 36 pumpkins), participants supply a decorated pumpkin (max 12 lb, 12 in width) that organizers convert into a wheeled racer. Race entries arrive by noon at the Pit Area inside the ruins of a Revolutionary War hospital, where judges will award prizes for creativity, humor, and spookiness before the 1 p.m. single‐elimination races begin. The competition is just one feature of the Yellow Springs Village Open House & Fall Festival, running from noon to 4 p.m., which includes historic tours, a haunted history exhibition, artist demonstrations, live music, pumpkin painting, treat bag decorating, and a village-wide scavenger hunt. The twin events celebrate seasonal fun, creativity, and community engagement in West Pikeland.
County Rangers Lead Cleanups at Black Rock and Hibernia Parks

COATESVILLE, PA — Chester County’s Parks + Preservation department is inviting residents to participate in two volunteer cleanups this October. On Friday, Oct. 10, from 5–7 p.m., volunteers will gather at Black Rock Sanctuary to remove old fishing line and hooks from around the pond. A second cleanup will take place at Hibernia County Park along the Brandywine Creek on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The goal is to prevent injuries to wildlife and improve the health of the ecosystem. Participants should bring gloves, a hat, and water, and may get wet during the cleanup. Waders are recommended but not required. Tools will be provided, and the events are free and open to all ages. Registration is required in advance.
Uwchlan Township Brings Road Paving In-House to Cut Costs, Boost Efficiency

UWCHLAN TWP — Uwchlan Township has begun managing its own road paving projects, following a cost analysis that showed the move would be more efficient and allow more roads to be paved each year. Township crews recently milled and paved Shelmire Road, Balderston Drive, and several municipal facilities, including the Police Department parking lot. Starting in 2026, all township paving will be handled in-house, signaling a major operational shift in local infrastructure management.
Two New Ways for Local Businesses to Shine in the Downingtown Local Pulse

Downingtown is built on the strength of its small businesses — the shops, restaurants, services, and makers that give our community its unique character. Now, there are two new ways for those businesses to get in front of thousands of engaged local readers through the Downingtown Local Pulse.
We’re introducing two promotional programs designed to give businesses year-round visibility and meaningful connections with our audience:
1. Partner Program
This package gives businesses a featured listing in our Local Business Directory, making it easy for residents to find and support you. Partners also receive:
A monthly Business Spotlight article that tells your story.
A pinned article on our website for maximum visibility.
Exposure to our massive Facebook audience, with each feature shared across our highly engaged social channels.
2. Patron Program
For businesses ready to take their visibility to the next level, the Patron Program includes everything in the Partner Program plus:
A top-level ad placement one issue a month, ensuring your brand stays front and center.
Both programs are built to keep your business in the local conversation month after month — not just as an ad, but as a valued part of the community’s story.
Whether you’re a family-run shop, a growing startup, or a well-established local favorite, these programs offer an affordable way to boost your visibility while supporting the Downingtown Local Pulse’s mission to celebrate the people and businesses that make our town special.
