Health Officials Issue Extreme Heat Warning for Chester County Through the Weekend

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department has declared an extreme heat health alert in response to a National Weather Service forecast projecting hazardous heat index levels across the region. The alert takes effect Wednesday, June 10 and runs through Saturday, June 13, with the possibility of extension if conditions worsen. Officials are calling on residents — especially vulnerable groups including the elderly, young children, and those without access to air conditioning — to take the threat seriously and limit unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak heat hours. To support those in need, cooling centers have been activated throughout Chester County and are available to anyone seeking relief. Because operating hours can change, residents are encouraged to check ahead before making a trip. Additional safety resources are available through the Chester County Health Department's website.

Vanguard to Vacate 87,600 Square Feet in Malvern, Leaving Building Mostly Empty

MALVERN, PA — Vanguard is walking away from a major chunk of suburban Philadelphia office space, declining to renew its lease at 45 Liberty Blvd. in the Great Valley Corporate Center when it expires at the end of June. The 87,600-square-foot departure will reduce the building's occupancy from 100 percent to just 36 percent — making it one of the largest single office exits in the local market this year. The investment management firm says the move is part of a broader effort to optimize its real estate footprint; it is keeping its Malvern West headquarters and retaining a presence throughout Chester County. A partial cushion exists for landlord FLD Group: Microsoft, the building's second-largest tenant, is reportedly in lease renewal talks. Even so, the vacancy puts renewed strain on a Great Valley office corridor that, like much of suburban America, is still working through the long-term consequences of remote and hybrid work trends.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Comes to Coatesville Later This Month

COATESVILLE, PA — Residents have an upcoming opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous household materials through a collection event hosted by the Chester County Solid Waste Authority on Friday, June 26, at the CCIU Learning Center in Coatesville. The event is free to attend but requires advance registration through Eventbrite, and spots are limited. Residents are encouraged to review the authority's website ahead of time for a full list of accepted products — not all hazardous materials qualify — to ensure they bring only eligible items. These periodic collection events are one of the primary ways the county helps residents avoid improper disposal of paints, chemicals, electronics, and similar materials that cannot go in household trash.
