EXTON, PA — Chester County broke ground at Exton Park on the first of 11 public electric vehicle charging stations. Officials from the county, PennDOT, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission and West Whiteland Township attended, along with Representative Chrissy Houlahan.

The Level 2 chargers, which add about 30 miles of range per hour of charging, will go in at parks, trailheads and county buildings through winter 2027. Locations include Black Rock Sanctuary, Nottingham County Park, Hibernia Park, Warwick County Park, the Chester County Library and several Struble Trail and Schuylkill River Trail trailheads. Users will pay a small fee to cover electricity and management costs.

EAST BRANDYWINE TWP — The East Brandywine Historical Commission is inviting residents to the September installment of its fall speaker series. The program, on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m., focuses on serpentine stone and its use in historic Chester County architecture.

It will be held at the East Brandywine Township Building, 1214 Horseshoe Pike, Downingtown. The talk is framed around three questions: what the stone is, when it was used, and where it can be found in the county's buildings. The event is open to the public.

WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY — The West Chester University Symphony Orchestra opens its 2026-27 season on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Asplundh Concert Hall with an all-American program. It includes the East Coast premiere of Our America by faculty member Ovidiu Marinescu and ends with Copland's Lincoln Portrait, narrated by university President Laurie Bernotsky. POTTSTOWN, PA — Warwick County Park will host a free talk on Anna Nutt, an early Pennsylvania iron producer, on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 2 to 3 p.m. Dan Graham, a historian, will discuss her life and business. The program is open to all ages, and participants will meet at the ranger-led program sign near the park office.

Nutt is credited with building Warwick Furnace in 1737. She married two Chester County ironmasters and lost her husband, a son-in-law and a son between 1736 and 1742. She and her daughter Rebecca then became sole owners of both Coventry and Warwick Furnace. Under the name Anna Nutt Co., Warwick made the Franklin stove starting in 1742 and supplied munitions and cannons during the Revolution.
