Downingtown Christmas Parade Returns Saturday

DOWNINGTOWN, PA β€” Downingtown's annual Christmas parade returns Saturday afternoon, bringing holiday festivities to Lancaster Avenue. Organized by Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, the event begins at 3 p.m. and features marching bands from Downingtown High School and Bishop Shanahan, along with the Valley Forge Highland Pipe Band, Duffy String Band, and other musical performers.

The parade will include dance and twirling units, decorative floats, fire engines, and various community groups. Santa Claus will appear on a float provided by Tree House World. This year's route starts near Gable Avenue and travels east to Green Street, shortened by two blocks due to ongoing road detours.

Event organizers thanked local sponsors and municipal partners for making the parade possible. The Borough of Downingtown police department has announced major road closures throughout the parade, urging motorists to use Route 30 Bypass as an alternative route. All roadways are expected to reopen by 5:30 p.m. after the parade concludes.

Route 100 Traffic Disrupted by Broken Inlet at Park Road

UPPER UWCHLAN TWP β€”A broken inlet at Route 100 and Park Road has led PennDOT to place traffic barrels that are disrupting traffic flow. The barrels are a temporary measure while repairs are planned. Drivers should use caution and expect delays in the area.

Downingtown's Annual Refuse Fee to Increase by Half Starting in 2026

DOWNINGTOWN, PA β€” Borough residents will see their annual refuse fees increase by $120 next year, rising from $240 to $360 as the municipality adjusts to higher waste collection costs.

The 50 percent increase reflects rising expenses from the borough's contracted waste hauler, a trend that officials said has been building over recent years. To avoid an increase in 2025, the borough drew down its refuse fund balance to cover the difference between fees collected and actual costs. That reserve has now been exhausted and needs to be rebuilt to maintain service stability.

Borough officials stressed that the refuse fund operates strictly as a pass-through account, with all collected fees going directly to pay the contracted hauler. The municipality does not generate revenue or retain surplus from waste collection fees.
