Three Chester County Voters Honored for 50 Straight November Elections

WEST CHESTER, PA — Three Chester County voters were inducted into Pennsylvania's Voter Hall of Fame on Friday after casting ballots in 50 consecutive November elections, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Rita Lese, 77, Michael Lese, 78, and Patricia Conroy, 79, were honored at a county Board of Elections meeting, bringing Chester County's total to 118 inductees. More than 25,000 voters statewide have been inducted since the hall was created in 1986.

All three have also worked at the polls. Mr. Lese has spent 25 years as a poll worker and is now a judge of elections, with Ms. Lese filling in when needed. Ms. Conroy, who credits her father for her voting habit, has served as a judge of elections and a Democratic committeeperson.

West Chester Becomes Chester County's Sixth Bird Town

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester is the newest Bird Town Pennsylvania community, a designation announced on Wednesday at Borough Hall by the organization's president, Heidi Shiver, The Daily Local News reported. The borough was invited to apply and qualified because of existing practices, including pesticide-free public parks and a growing number of rain and pollinator gardens.

Volunteers led the effort, and the borough manager plans to add bird-friendly design to the borough building on East Gay Street. The program provides training, resources and funding help, and will partner locally with the Valley Forge Audubon chapter. West Chester joins Phoenixville, Charlestown, Westtown, West Whiteland and Kennett Township as Chester County Bird Towns.
