With over a century of conservation expertise, the National Audubon Society knows what it takes to protect the birds we love. And with your support today, we can.

Downingtown Train Station Project Advances With Utility Relocation Work

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown train station project is progressing into its next preparatory stage, with utility relocation work scheduled to begin in late April. Crews will replace pole lines along Boot Road, Reed Street and State Route 322, clearing infrastructure that currently conflicts with the planned station footprint.

A key technical step, a jack-and-bore operation tunneling beneath the railroad track, is set for late June or July and is projected to take about two weeks. Following its completion, a lane closure along Route 322 will be put in place so workers can remove existing overhead power lines. The full utility relocation effort is expected to conclude in October or November.

Additional early-action work is also moving forward, including modifications to the overhead catenary system that powers the rail corridor's electric trains, anticipated to start in June or July. Construction of the station itself, which will include a new railroad bridge over Route 322, is targeted for mid-2027. Updates and additional details are available on the project's official website.

Spring Roadside Cleanup Underway in East Caln Township

EAST CALN TWP — East Caln Township has announced that contractors will be working along local roadways throughout the spring and summer to cut back embankments, clear intersections and maintain road shoulders. The work is part of routine township upkeep aimed at keeping sightlines clear and roadways safe for travelers.

Officials are urging residents to avoid planting vegetation within the road right of way, as those plantings may be removed during maintenance. Drivers are also being asked to exercise caution when passing through active work areas, since crews will be operating close to the road. Residents who spot trouble areas along township roads, or who have questions about the project, can reach the township office by email at [email protected].

Expert Panel to Weigh In on Trails Connecting to Regional Transit

MALVERN, PA — A regional discussion scheduled for May 11 will explore a question that has been gaining traction among planners across the country: can trails be more than just recreational amenities? Hosted by the Transportation Management Association of Chester County, the transportation briefing will examine how multi-use paths might serve as practical commuter routes when integrated with existing transit systems.

The event will feature a keynote presentation followed by a panel discussion with regional experts, including Steve Buck of the Chester County Planning Commission, Shawn Legendre of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, Emilia Crotty of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Michele Perch of the William Penn Foundation. Together, they will look at how trails are being designed as functional commuter corridors and what that shift could mean for the region. Registration details are available through the TMACC website.
