Downingtown Prepares for Good Neighbor Day with Traffic Advisory

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown's annual Good Neighbor Day, a key event fostering community spirit, will take place on Thursday, July 4th. The day's activities will begin with the "Run for Life" event at 8:00 a.m., affecting Route 30 Business and Pennsylvania Avenue. Road closures and detours will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., impacting both primary and secondary roads in Downingtown Borough. Motorists are advised to plan their travel in advance and consider using the Route 30 Bypass and Route 100 to avoid the area.

After the race, most roads will reopen, except for East Pennsylvania Avenue, which will remain closed between Route 322/Manor Avenue and Route 282/Wallace Avenue into the evening hours. Traffic delays are expected throughout the day as Good Neighbor Day events continue, culminating in a fireworks display at dusk. For more details on the day's activities, visit the Good Neighbor Day website.

Piasecki Aircraft Revitalizes Former Sikorsky Plant in Coatesville

COATESVILLE, PA — Piasecki Aircraft's acquisition of the former Sikorsky helicopter plant in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, marks a significant development for Chester County. The 219,000-square-foot facility, previously used for producing Sikorsky’s S-76 and S-92 helicopters, is being converted into an advanced research and development center. It will also be the manufacturing and testing site for Piasecki’s PA-890 helicopter, the world’s first zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell rotorcraft. The facility, which celebrated its ribbon-cutting on Wednesday, is expected to open to employees in the fall and is projected to employ up to 400 people by 2028. This development underscores Piasecki Aircraft’s continued innovation in aerospace since its founding by Philadelphia native Frank Piasecki in 1955.

Record-Breaking Travel Expected for July Fourth Holiday, AAA Reports

This July Fourth holiday is projected to be the busiest ever for travel, with AAA anticipating 70.9 million Americans traveling at least 50 miles from home. This marks a 5% increase from last year and an 8% rise from 2019. With the flexibility of remote work and summer vacations in full swing, more people are taking extended trips around Independence Day. Heavy traffic is expected on July 3rd and July 7th, with road trips potentially taking up to 67% longer during peak times.

AAA projects a record 60.6 million car travelers, surpassing the 55.3 million in 2019. Air travel will also reach new heights with 5.74 million people flying, a nearly 7% increase from last year. Additionally, 4.6 million travelers will use buses, cruises, and trains, a 9% increase from 2023.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission expects over 5.62 million motorists between June 28 and July 7, suspending construction projects to keep lanes open and increasing state police patrols to ensure safety. Gas prices remain relatively stable, with the national average at $3.50 per gallon and Pennsylvania at $3.65. Weather forecasts indicate a mix of sun and clouds with occasional thunderstorms, but these are not expected to significantly impact travel plans.

Knights of Columbus Exton Thanks Police for Life-Saving AED Donation

EXTON, PA — In a gesture of community solidarity, the Knights of Columbus Saint Pope John XXIII Council in Exton extended their heartfelt thanks to the West Whiteland Township Police Officers Association for their donation of an automated external defibrillator (AED). This vital device, essential in medical emergencies, will greatly enhance the Council's ability to respond effectively to crises.

The donation is a testament to the police association's dedication to the health and safety of the community, a commitment that the Knights of Columbus deeply appreciate. The presence of the AED offers comfort and reassurance, knowing that lives could be saved in moments of critical need.

West Goshen’s Parkway Center to Host New Wawa

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Parkway Shopping Center in West Goshen will soon welcome a new Wawa convenience store, set to replace the older market on High Street. This new development will feature 16 gasoline pumps and larger facilities to better serve the community’s needs. The current store, one of Wawa's original smaller markets dating back to 1968, will be closed.

The transformation includes the demolition of Timothy’s restaurant and a significant portion of the existing shopping center. The new 6,049-square-foot Wawa will occupy the space formerly held by the Courtyard restaurant and the Pepperidge Farm thrift store. The property, zoned for neighborhood commercial use, has been granted conditional use approval with variances for building size, setback, and green space.

Wawa, Inc. will also celebrate its 59th anniversary on April 13 with its annual Wawa Day, providing free hot coffee to customers throughout the day across its nearly 1,000 stores.
