WEST CHESTER, PA — The Historic Courthouse in West Chester was illuminated green in observance of World Ranger Day, a global tribute to park rangers. The gesture recognizes Chester County's own ranger staff — 13 full-time and four part-time employees — who are responsible for stewarding more than 4,400 acres of county park land and over 25 miles of multi-use trails. Beyond land maintenance, these rangers deliver educational programming, enforce park regulations, and ensure public safety for the more than one million people who visit county parks and trails annually. World Ranger Day serves two purposes: celebrating the ongoing work of rangers in protecting natural and cultural resources, and honoring the memory of rangers who have lost their lives while on duty. The lighting is meant as a visible, public thank-you to those who serve in these roles.

EXTON, PA — i2n Angels, a member-driven investment group launched in November 2025 as part of the Chester County Economic Development Council's Ideas x Innovation Network, is aiming to solve a longstanding problem for southeastern Pennsylvania startups: access to early-stage capital close to home. The group's strategy draws on the experience of Vice Chair John Barrett, a nearly 40-year veteran of product development and mergers and acquisitions who has worked with institutions like Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. His focus on helping founders build companies with strong commercialization plans from day one shapes the group's approach to vetting and supporting startups.

Currently, i2n Angels has recruited 57 accredited investors, with a target of 100. Members pay $500 annually and agree to back at least one company over three years, investing collectively through Special Purpose Entities while also offering ongoing mentorship and regional connections. Startups accepted into the program, known as i2n Entrepreneurs, receive funding ranging from $50,000 to $500,000, along with workspace, educational programming, and networking support. Organizers say the initiative is designed to help retain both businesses and talent within the region. WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County has broadened its nationally recognized Crisis Intervention Team training program by introducing two new specialized tracks: CIT-Y, focused on youth in behavioral health crises, and the Veterans Response Team (VRT), aimed at supporting veterans and their families. All three programs, run jointly by county Human Services departments, courts, and law enforcement, are designed to equip officers with de-escalation skills tailored to the specific needs of the people they encounter, with the goal of diverting individuals away from the criminal justice system and toward appropriate care.

The original CIT program, now in its ninth year, has graduated more than 400 participants from 31 police departments as well as corrections, park ranger, sheriff's, probation, veterans affairs, and 9-1-1 center personnel. It runs each spring and fall. The CIT-Y program launched as a pilot earlier this year after Chester County was chosen as one of six counties nationally by the National Alliance on Mental Illness to test the curriculum, which covers adolescent brain development and strategies for engaging youth in crisis. The county's first VRT session was held in June, connecting officers with military experience to veteran support organizations, with a second session planned for November. The county also runs shorter, one-day crisis training sessions for EMTs and 9-1-1 dispatchers.

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — East Caln Township has announced that Skelp Level Road in neighboring East Bradford Township will be closed beginning Monday, Aug. 3, for emergency pipe replacement work. The closure is scheduled to run from roughly 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the possibility of continuing into Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 4 and 5, depending on weather conditions. During the closure, East Caln residents will still have access to Oakridge and Springhill Drive by routing through Boot Road. Township officials are encouraging residents to plan ahead and adjust their travel routes while the repair work is completed.
