Chester County Residents Urged to Prepare as Winter Storm Approaches

WEST CHESTER, PA — A winter storm warning has been issued for Chester County, Pennsylvania, effective from Saturday night until Monday morning, as the region prepares for what could be one of the most significant snowfall events of the season. The National Weather Service forecasts between 8 and 18 inches of snow accumulation throughout the county.
Adding to the complexity of the weather event, meteorologists warn that periods of sleet and freezing rain may occur, creating hazardous conditions and potentially causing isolated power outages across the area. Emergency services officials are advising residents to take preparatory measures immediately.
Recommended preparations include stocking emergency supplies for both homes and vehicles, topping off fuel tanks for cars and any heating sources, and ensuring access to weather alerts through multiple channels. The county has made an emergency notification system available at ReadyChesCo.org for residents to receive real-time updates.
Officials are strongly encouraging people to limit travel during the storm and to bring pets indoors with adequate water supplies. As the storm system approaches, authorities recommend monitoring the National Weather Service for the latest forecast details and adjusting plans accordingly.
Local Townships Declare Snow Emergencies as Major Storm Approaches

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — In preparation for this weekend's major winter storm, Downingtown Mayor Erica Deuso has declared a snow emergency beginning Saturday evening at 6 p.m., joining numerous other local townships in Chester County taking similar action.
The declaration authorizes the Downingtown Police Department to remove vehicles from designated snow emergency routes to facilitate efficient snow removal operations. Residents are being urged to check their township websites to determine if they live along affected routes, as designations vary by municipality.
Once the 6 p.m. Saturday deadline passes, vehicle owners parked along emergency routes will have just one hour to relocate their cars. Vehicles remaining after that grace period face towing by authorized contractors, particularly if they are abandoned, inoperative, or their owners are unable or unwilling to move them.
Officials stress that maintaining clear emergency routes is crucial for both public safety and effective snow removal during what forecasters predict could be a severe winter weather event. The snow emergency will continue until local authorities determine it is safe to lift the restrictions.
PECO Mobilizes Extra Crews Ahead of Weekend Winter Storm

PHILADELPHIA, PA — PECO is mobilizing additional crews and resources ahead of this weekend's winter storm, which forecasters say could bring heavy snow and freezing rain that may knock out power across the Philadelphia region.
The utility company announced Wednesday that it has increased staffing levels to respond quickly to potential outages caused by the weather system expected to arrive Saturday. Officials are particularly concerned about the combination of heavy snow accumulation and possible ice, which can weigh down trees and power lines, leading to widespread service disruptions.
The company's operations teams are monitoring weather conditions closely and developing response plans for potential impacts on both electric and natural gas infrastructure. Should outages occur, crews will work continuously until service is restored to all customers, according to company officials.
PECO is urging customers to take their own preparatory measures, including charging electronic devices before the storm arrives, keeping flashlights with fresh batteries readily available, and stocking up on bottled water and non-perishable food items.
Safety concerns extend beyond power outages. The utility is reminding customers to keep exhaust vents for natural gas appliances clear of snow and ice to prevent dangerous carbon monoxide buildup. Meters should also be gently cleared using a broom or brush, and residents should always assume downed power lines are energized and stay well away from them.
Customers can report outages through multiple channels: by calling the company's hotline at 1-800-841-4141, visiting the PECO website, or using the utility's mobile app. The company also offers a text messaging service that allows customers to report problems and check restoration status by texting "ADDOUTAGE" to MYPECO.
