County Residents Targeted in Phone Fraud Scheme

EXTON, PA โ€” The West Whiteland Police Department is urging residents to be on high alert following a wave of phone scams in which fraudsters impersonate Chester County Sheriff's Office deputies. The callers claim that a family member owes a fine for missing grand jury duty or for an outstanding citation, and pressure residents to pay immediately. In many reported cases, scammers have gone as far as using the name of a real, identifiable officer to lend their calls credibility.

Police officials have been clear: no legitimate law enforcement agency will contact residents by phone to demand payment or threaten arrest. Residents should hang up without engaging, avoid sharing any personal or financial details, and independently verify any such claim by contacting the Chester County Sheriff's Office directly โ€” not by using contact information provided by the caller.

Authorities have not confirmed how many people have been targeted or whether any residents have lost money. However, the West Whiteland Police Department is encouraging anyone who receives one of these calls to report it at 610-363-0200, regardless of outcome, to help officials better understand and respond to the scale of the fraud.

Downingtown Parking Kiosks to Drop Paper Receipts in July

DOWNINGTOWN, PA โ€” Downingtown Borough is making an upgrade to its parking infrastructure this summer. Beginning in July, parking kiosks throughout the Borough will stop printing paper receipts. After completing a payment, a QR code will display on the kiosk screen, allowing drivers to scan it with a smartphone to instantly retrieve, save or email a digital copy of their receipt.

The change is designed to improve kiosk reliability by removing paper mechanisms that require regular maintenance, while also reducing the Borough's paper consumption. Officials note that parking enforcement will no longer require drivers to display a physical receipt โ€” making the digital-only system fully self-contained.

For residents who need assistance navigating the new process, the Borough Parking Office is available at 610-269-0344 or [email protected].
