Caln Township Advances Concept Plan for Kings Highway Park

CALN TWP β€” After a series of public meetings, Caln Township's Kings Highway Park Taskforce has wrapped up its planning phase, handing off a set of community-driven recommendations to Gilmore Engineering, which compiled them into a formal concept plan. Township staff now intend to use that sketch plan as the foundation for grant applications aimed at securing funding to bring the park to life. While no construction timeline or design specifics have been announced, the move marks a meaningful step forward for a project that has been shaped by resident input over several months.

Upper Uwchlan Marks America's 250th With Historic Driving Tour

UPPER UWCHLAN TWP β€” To mark America's 250th birthday, Upper Uwchlan Township's Historical Commission is offering a free driving tour spotlighting 25 of the area's oldest homes, farmsteads and historic sites, including the circa-1755 Whelen Farmstead and a former Revolutionary War-era tavern. The self-guided tour gives residents a window into the region's early architecture and daily life during the founding era. While most properties remain closed to the public, the Upland Farm Farmhouse Museum in Chester Springs will serve as the tour's starting point and will be open with additional exhibits during tour hours. Sessions on June 28 and July 4 have already filled up, leaving July 18 as the only remaining date, with morning and afternoon slots available. The tour is free, but advance online registration is required.

Chester County's Drought Warning Persists as Groundwater Lags

WEST CHESTER, PA β€” Chester County continues under a state-declared drought warning, with groundwater levels still lagging behind normal despite roughly three inches of rain in June. Officials say the deficit reflects nearly nine months of below-average precipitation, worsened by a winter freeze that limited snowmelt absorption and a recent heat wave pushing temperatures past 100 degrees. County officials are asking residents, farms, businesses and private well owners to voluntarily cut nonessential water use by 10 to 15 percent, offering guidance on outdoor watering, leak repairs and irrigation checks. The Commonwealth Drought Task Force recently expanded warning designations to Berks, Lancaster, Lehigh and Lebanon counties, while several others remain under a less severe watch status. No Pennsylvania county has reached emergency status this year, though officials caution that continued groundwater decline could increasingly strain private well users if dry conditions persist.

Volunteers Sought as Caln's Clean-Up Crew Returns to Valley Run

CALN TWP β€” Caln Township's Clean-Up Crew program is returning for its first event of the season, focusing on Valley Run. The two-hour event, running from 10 a.m. to noon, invites residents to help remove litter from the stream, either from the bank or in the water itself. Organizers describe the program as both a community-building opportunity and a practical effort to keep local waterways clean, with participants earning small prizes like hats, water bottles and hoodies for attending, plus additional rewards for repeat participation. Future events will rotate to different locations throughout the township. Interested residents can register online through SignUpGenius
