Coatesville Schools to Open On-Site Health Center for Students and Families

COATESVILLE, PA - The Coatesville Area School District approved a collaboration with Union Community Care to establish a comprehensive health center at Coatesville Area Senior High School. The board's January 27 decision brings primary medical care directly to campus, addressing a common barrier many families face in accessing healthcare.

The center will provide an extensive range of services including preventative care, treatment for acute medical conditions, prescription medications, and vaccinations. Students will receive standard health screenings covering vision, hearing, and body mass index measurements. Additionally, the center will offer adolescent-focused care, including reproductive health services as permitted under Pennsylvania law.

Operating throughout the entire year, the facility will serve both students and their family members. The financial model prioritizes accessibility: families with insurance will have their coverage billed, while those without insurance can utilize a sliding-fee payment structure based on income level. Payment plans will be available, and the district has committed to providing care regardless of a family's financial situation.

Chester County Secures Over $20 Million in State Grants for Local Projects

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Chester County municipalities received more than $20 million in state grants announced in December for infrastructure, parks, and emergency services. The funding came through programs administered by three state agencies. Major awards included nearly $11.7 million through the Statewide Local Share Account for 51 projects, $1.7 million for transportation improvements, $766,000 through Act 13 programs, and $6 million for conservation projects. Notable recipients include West Chester Borough for fire equipment, several townships for bridge replacements, and funding for the Downingtown Trestle rehabilitation design. See the list of county recipients at the county’s website.

Caln Township Swears In New Deputy Police Chief

CALN TWP — Caln Township swore in Brian Barber as its new deputy police chief at last Thursday's commissioners meeting. Barber brings more than 26 years of experience from the Pennsylvania State Police to the position. During the ceremony, he pledged to serve the community with professionalism, integrity, and dedication while supporting the officers under his leadership. Township officials welcomed him to the department as he transitions from state to local law enforcement.

Minquas EMS Membership Shields Residents From Ambulance Bills

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — East Caln Township is promoting membership in the Minquas Ambulance Club, which protects residents from out-of-pocket costs for emergency ambulance services. Members have their insurance billed directly, with no additional charges beyond what insurance covers. Non-members could face bills up to $2,000 for remaining balances after insurance payment. Minquas Fire Company No. 2 is the township's official EMS provider. Residents can enroll by contacting the organization at 610-269-2797 or visiting their website.
