Boot Road Bridge Replacement in East Caln Township Stays on Track for Fall 2026 Finish

EAST CALN TWP — The Boot Road bridge replacement project in East Caln Township, Chester County is progressing on schedule, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The existing bridge, which crosses an active Amtrak rail line, was demolished in February by contractor H&K Group, which has since shifted focus to site excavation and preparation. Foundation construction is expected to begin in April and wrap up in May, followed by bridge beam installation in late June or early July. Deck construction will then carry through the summer and into the fall, with the full project slated for completion by fall 2026. Residents can track progress through PennDOT's dedicated project webpage.
Two Townships Compete for a Cause in April Food Drive Challenge

UWCHLAN and UPPER UWCHLAN TWPS — For the second year running, Uwchlan Township and Upper Uwchlan Township are facing off in a friendly food drive competition, with the real winners being food-insecure residents throughout Chester County. The monthlong challenge runs from April 1 through April 30, with both townships collecting nonperishable donations at their respective municipal buildings. Uwchlan Township's drop-off site is located at 715 North Ship Road in Exton, while Upper Uwchlan Township's building at 140 Pottstown Pike in Chester Springs will also be accepting items. Township lobbies will be open every weekend during April from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Chester County Food Bank has flagged canned tuna, canned chicken, canned spam, canned fruit in light syrup, and jelly as top priorities, and has asked that donors avoid glass packaging. A full list of accepted and needed items is available at chestercountyfoodbank.org.

From Chester County to Independence Hall: Historian to Explore John Morton's Revolutionary Legacy

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County's own John Morton may not be the most immediately recognizable name among the signers of the Declaration of Independence, but a virtual presentation next week seeks to bring renewed attention to his remarkable life. Morton, who signed the historic document in 1776, was one of Pennsylvania's most accomplished public figures of his era, having served simultaneously as a Continental Congress delegate, Speaker of the Pennsylvania Assembly, and Associate Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. On April 1 at noon, local historian and researcher John E. Smith III will lead a virtual talk tracing Morton's roots in Chester County and examining how his personal and political journey led him to Independence Hall. The event is part of the America250 Speaker Series, organized in recognition of the approaching 250th anniversary of American independence. The presentation is free and open to the public, with registration available online Click here.
