Bear Encounters Spread Across Chester County, Puzzling Wildlife Officials
CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — A series of black bear sightings in Chester County has put suburban residents on alert, with multiple encounters reported across West Vincent, Willistown and East Goshen in recent days. One Willistown homeowner first noticed signs of the animal after finding a bird feeder pole pushed nearly to the ground; he later spotted the bear crossing his property line with his wife beside him. Police believe the same animal was captured on video walking onto a porch in East Goshen, about three miles away, with a matching paw print on a feeder supporting that connection.
The Chester County incidents are part of a wider regional trend. In neighboring Montgomery County last week, a bear spent several days moving through a residential area before being tranquilized and relocated by game wardens. Pennsylvania Game Commission officials noted Friday that while two to three bears are typical for the area this time of year, the current frequency of sightings is out of the ordinary. Authorities are urging residents to eliminate attractants like bird feeders and garbage, and to report any sightings to help wildlife managers monitor the animals' movements.
Bondsville Road to Shut Down June 22 for Retaining Wall Work in East Brandywine

EAST BRANDYWINE TWP — East Brandywine Township has announced that Bondsville Road will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, June 22, 2026, as construction crews move forward with a retaining wall installation tied to the Bondsville Road Improvement Project. The work is being carried out by contractor J.D. Eckman along State Route 4015.
While the road will be shut to cut-through traffic, the township confirmed that local access will be maintained for residents and businesses in the immediate area. Drivers who regularly use the route should anticipate detours and factor in additional travel time until the work is complete. Advance warning signs will be placed along the corridor ahead of the closure date, and a detour map has been issued to help commuters identify alternate paths.
Got a Garden? Upper Uwchlan's Annual Tour Is Looking for You.

UPPER UWCHLAN TWP — Upper Uwchlan Township's Park and Recreation Board is gearing up for its second annual Community Garden Tour and is currently recruiting local gardeners to take part. The event, scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, will run in an open house format from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., allowing visitors to move freely between participating gardens at their own pace. A rain date of July 12 has been set in case of inclement weather.
Organizers say the tour is open to gardeners of all backgrounds and skill levels — no prize-winning plot required. Whether a resident tends a modest container garden on a back patio or maintains a sprawling perennial border, all are welcome to participate and share their space with the community.
Gardeners hoping to be included must sign up by June 15. Interested residents can contact Lindsay Yeager, the township's point of contact for the event, by phone at 610-646-7018 or by email at [email protected]. The township also welcomes inquiries from anyone who wants more information before committing.
