Chester County Honors Its Sharpest Minds at Annual Academic Breakfast

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit hosted its annual Breakfast of Champions on Friday at the Downingtown Country Club, closing out the 2025-26 Chester County Academic Competition season. Competitors, coaches and sponsors gathered to mark months of weekly practices and matches, with remarks from Jay Della Ragione and Melissa Smith of the Intermediate Unit, along with Brielle Ridgeway of Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, the event's premier sponsor.

The keynote came from Isaac Hirsch, a former quiz bowl competitor and multi-game "Jeopardy!" winner, who urged students to value the experience of competing over wins and losses and to stay open to new directions after graduation. The morning's awards recognized Brian Johnson of B. Reed Henderson High School as Coach of the Year, while the Howard M. Reinard Jr. Competitor of the Year Award went to Sidharth Muthiyattu Sumesh, also of B. Reed Henderson and his team's MVP. Valeria Wakeman of Octorara High School received the Heart of the Team award.
