Chester County Coalition Marks 10 Years of Trauma Awareness Work

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County ACEs Coalition recently celebrated ten years of work addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs, at an anniversary event honoring its partners, advocates, and volunteers. Established in 2016 by a coalition of nonprofits including Home of the Sparrow, the organization moved under the umbrella of the Chester County Health Department in 2020, with support from the county's Department of Children, Youth and Families.
Since its founding, the Coalition has trained nearly 14,000 individuals across the county in trauma awareness, helping connect people affected by adverse experiences with resources and support. County health officials cite national data showing that more than 60 percent of adults report at least one adverse childhood experience, underscoring the scale of the issue the Coalition was created to address.

Take a Virtual Walk Through Warwick County Park's History This August

POTTSTOWN, PA — Chester County Archives and Records Services is inviting residents to a virtual program on Thursday, August 27, at noon, focused on the history and natural features of Warwick County Park. Ranger Erb will lead the session, walking attendees through the park's background, its diverse landscapes, and the range of recreational activities it offers.
The program aims to give the community a deeper appreciation of the park as both a historical site and a recreational destination. For those who cannot attend the live event, organizers will record the session and make it available afterward, ensuring the information remains accessible regardless of scheduling conflicts.
Residents can register for the program, or find the recording once available, through the Chester County Archives' Events page at chesco.org/5383/Events.
Applications Open for East Brandywine Board Vacancy

EAST BRANDYWINE TWP — East Brandywine Township has opened applications for a vacant seat on its Board of Supervisors following the departure of former Supervisor Kyle Scribner. The Board holds broad legislative and executive authority over the township, including setting policy, adopting budgets, and overseeing municipal operations, under the state's Second Class Township Code.
The selected appointee will complete the remainder of Scribner's term, which runs through December 2027. Eligible candidates must have lived in the township for at least one continuous year and will be required to take an Oath of Office and file annual financial disclosures. The position includes an annual salary of $1,500 and eligibility for township-supported health benefits.
As part of the application process, candidates must attend a special Board meeting on August 26 at 6:30 p.m., where they will have five minutes to make their case for the position. The meeting will be recorded for later viewing on the township's YouTube channel, and a vote on the appointment is expected either that night or at the Board's September 3 meeting.
Prospective applicants must submit a letter of interest and a completed application form to Township Secretary Lisa Taraschi by 4 p.m. on August 20, either by email, mail, or in-person delivery to the Township Offices.
New Garden Festival of Flight Takes Off This Weekend

LANDENBERG, PA — Chester County's only major air show, the New Garden Festival of Flight, returns this weekend to New Garden Flying Field in Toughkenamon. The two-day event runs Saturday and Sunday, August 8-9, and includes aerobatic stunts, military aircraft, a car and tractor show, live music, food vendors, and a Saturday evening display of fireworks, drones, and lasers. Sunday's program features a more traditional air show with skydivers, warbirds, and opportunities to meet pilots.
Roughly 8,000 people attended last year's festival, reflecting its status as the region's premier aviation event. The airport itself, known as N57, has operated since 1986 and today supports 130 based aircraft and about 45,000 flights per year. Since New Garden Township purchased the property from the DuPont family in 2007, officials have invested millions of dollars — including significant state and federal grants — into upgrading runways, taxiways, and terminal facilities.
