70 Trees Targeted for Removal Along East Bradford’s Brandywine Road

EAST BRADFORD TWP — A plan by PECO to cut down nearly 100 trees in East Bradford, including along the scenic Brandywine Road, has provoked community backlash. Township officials are pushing back, seeking alternatives such as pruning rather than removal. Residents have expressed concern over the environmental impact, the effect on property values, and the lack of clear communication. PECO maintains that the tree removal is essential to prevent storm-related outages and to comply with safety standards. Similar projects have already affected nearby East Goshen, with more removals planned. While PECO cites improved reliability from such efforts, many in East Bradford believe the loss of the road’s historic canopy is too steep a price.

The event seeks to celebrate Hannum’s legacy and encourage continued community stewardship.

Robbery Suspect Hospitalized After Being Stabbed With Samurai Sword

NORRISTOWN, PA — A home invasion in Norristown ended with the suspect in the hospital after a resident defended himself with a samurai sword, authorities said. The incident occurred Tuesday morning when Marcus Armstrong allegedly attempted to rob two individuals at gunpoint—later revealed to be a fake weapon—outside a home on Blackberry Alley. One of the victims fled indoors, with Armstrong reportedly following and forcing his way inside. There, he encountered a roommate who struck him with a samurai sword. Armstrong fled and was later found bleeding on Cherry Street. No residents were injured. Armstrong remains hospitalized and faces burglary and robbery charges.
