Community to Honor Charlie Kirk with Memorial at Chester County Courthouse

WEST CHESTER, PA — A remembrance service for Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, will be held on Sunday, September 14. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. on the steps of the Chester County Historic Courthouse in West Chester, Pennsylvania, at 2 North High Street. It is an opportunity for the community to gather and pay tribute to Mr. Kirk’s life and work.
Battle of Brandywine Reenactment Returns to Chadds Ford This Weekend

CHADDS FORD, PA — This weekend the Chadds Ford Historical Society will present its annual commemoration of the Battle of Brandywine, featuring live battle reenactments, military drills, colonial encampments, and artisan demonstrations. Held at 1736 Creek Road, Chadds Ford, the event includes food, drink, music, and hands-on experiences for children such as mock drills with wooden muskets. A Saturday evening event, “Tavern Night in the Grove,” will recreate the atmosphere of a colonial tavern with traditional libations and music. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for youth, and free for children under six and Society members. Dogs are welcome but may be sensitive to loud battle reenactments.
West Pikeland Upgrades Picnic Area at Pine Creek Park

WEST PIKELAND TWP — The picnic area at Pine Creek Park in West Pikeland Township received a refresh earlier this month. During the week of September 8, the township's Public Works team replaced aging wooden boards on picnic tables and power-washed the concrete surfaces. Township officials said the effort reflects a broader initiative to maintain the township's public spaces and ensure they remain inviting for residents and visitors alike.
Chester County Parks Welcomes New Open Lands Stewardship Leader

WEST CHESTER, PA — Madison Rettenmaier has joined Chester County Parks + Preservation as the new Open Lands Stewardship Coordinator. With a background in forestry consulting and a degree in environmental geography from West Chester University, she will assist landowners and conservation easement holders in caring for preserved land across the county. Her role supports the county’s broader Preservation Partnership Program, which works with municipalities and nonprofit organizations to permanently protect open space, improve access to natural resources, and support local land use goals.

Two New Ways for Local Businesses to Shine in the Downingtown Local Pulse

Downingtown is built on the strength of its small businesses — the shops, restaurants, services, and makers that give our community its unique character. Now, there are two new ways for those businesses to get in front of thousands of engaged local readers through the Downingtown Local Pulse.
We’re introducing two promotional programs designed to give businesses year-round visibility and meaningful connections with our audience:
1. Partner Program
This package gives businesses a featured listing in our Local Business Directory, making it easy for residents to find and support you. Partners also receive:
A monthly Business Spotlight article that tells your story.
A pinned article on our website for maximum visibility.
Exposure to our massive Facebook audience, with each feature shared across our highly engaged social channels.
2. Patron Program
For businesses ready to take their visibility to the next level, the Patron Program includes everything in the Partner Program plus:
A top-level ad placement one issue a month, ensuring your brand stays front and center.
Both programs are built to keep your business in the local conversation month after month — not just as an ad, but as a valued part of the community’s story.
Whether you’re a family-run shop, a growing startup, or a well-established local favorite, these programs offer an affordable way to boost your visibility while supporting the Downingtown Local Pulse’s mission to celebrate the people and businesses that make our town special.

Building Business by Building Trust: Free Trade Networking’s Local Impact
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — In this episode, Jenny Leigh sits down with Pat Dicola, the visionary behind Free Trade Networking. Launched during the pandemic, Free Trade has grown from a small Zoom group into more than 30 in-person chapters across the region, including Downingtown. Unlike traditional networking groups, Free Trade emphasizes collaboration over quotas, one-member-per-category chapters, and strong ties to local nonprofits. The result is a community of small business owners who not only support each other but also give back—making Free Trade a fast-growing hub for both business and service in Chester County.
