Chester County Lowers Flags Through Sept. 14 to Mark 9/11; Stresses Free Speech After Assassination

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County has directed that flags at all county government facilities remain at half‑staff until September 14, as a tribute to the lives lost in the September 11 attacks. The action coincides with a call from county leadership to uphold the principles of free expression after the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk. In making this appeal, officials highlighted the dangers of political violence and underscored the importance of allowing every person to voice their beliefs without fear of retaliation or harm.
MarshMan Triathlon Sunday May Affect Roads Around Marsh Creek State Park

UPPER UWCHLAN TWP — The MarshMan Sprint Triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, September 14, with a 7:30 a.m. start at Marsh Creek State Park. The race starts with a 750‑meter swim in Marsh Creek Lake, transitions into a 12.5‑mile bike ride over public roads (route includes Park Road, Moore Road, Dorlan’s Mill Road, Creek Road (Rt. 282), Marshall Road, and Little Conestoga Road), and finishes with a 5k run entirely inside the Park. The bike course will close at 9:30 a.m. Motorists should anticipate traffic surges—especially on Park Road—throughout the morning and early afternoon. Cyclist safety is emphasized; everyone is encouraged to be alert and accommodating. More info online

East Vincent Drafts Zoning Rules to Curb Data Center, Tire Plant at Pennhurst Site

Pennhurst Campus, 1934
SPRING CITY, PA — Amid concerns over a possible data center and tire-burning facility at the historic Pennhurst site, East Vincent Township officials are drafting zoning rules to address the environmental and infrastructure impacts of such developments. While no formal proposal has been filed, the property owner has floated both ideas. In response, township officials and the East Vincent Advocacy group have collaborated on a draft ordinance aimed at curbing excessive energy and water usage tied to data centers. State Sen. Katie Muth, who lives in the township, emphasized the urgency due to a lack of statewide regulation, citing her own proposed legislation to hold large data centers accountable for infrastructure costs. Residents voiced concerns over water shortages and air pollution. The Pennhurst site is currently zoned for industrial mixed-use, allowing both proposed uses.
Two New Ways for Local Businesses to Shine in the Downingtown Local Pulse

Downingtown is built on the strength of its small businesses — the shops, restaurants, services, and makers that give our community its unique character. Now, there are two new ways for those businesses to get in front of thousands of engaged local readers through the Downingtown Local Pulse.
We’re introducing two promotional programs designed to give businesses year-round visibility and meaningful connections with our audience:
1. Partner Program
This package gives businesses a featured listing in our Local Business Directory, making it easy for residents to find and support you. Partners also receive:
A monthly Business Spotlight article that tells your story.
A pinned article on our website for maximum visibility.
Exposure to our massive Facebook audience, with each feature shared across our highly engaged social channels.
2. Patron Program
For businesses ready to take their visibility to the next level, the Patron Program includes everything in the Partner Program plus:
A top-level ad placement one issue a month, ensuring your brand stays front and center.
Both programs are built to keep your business in the local conversation month after month — not just as an ad, but as a valued part of the community’s story.
Whether you’re a family-run shop, a growing startup, or a well-established local favorite, these programs offer an affordable way to boost your visibility while supporting the Downingtown Local Pulse’s mission to celebrate the people and businesses that make our town special.

Building Business by Building Trust: Free Trade Networking’s Local Impact
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — In this episode, Jenny Leigh sits down with Pat Dicola, the visionary behind Free Trade Networking. Launched during the pandemic, Free Trade has grown from a small Zoom group into more than 30 in-person chapters across the region, including Downingtown. Unlike traditional networking groups, Free Trade emphasizes collaboration over quotas, one-member-per-category chapters, and strong ties to local nonprofits. The result is a community of small business owners who not only support each other but also give back—making Free Trade a fast-growing hub for both business and service in Chester County.
