Fire Shutters Multiple Businesses at Eagleview Town Center

UWCHLAN TWP — In the early hours of Thursday morning, a fire broke out at Eagleview Town Center in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, damaging a commercial building that houses several popular local businesses. The fire began near the gas service area of the structure and was initially thought to be caused by a gas line rupture, though investigators later determined it to be accidental. PECO cut power and gas to the building for safety reasons.

Brickside Grille, Persis Indian Grill, Rita’s, Gemini Hair Design, and Wellington Square Bookshop were all affected and are temporarily closed. In response to the disruption, Brickside Grille donated its remaining food inventory to the Chester County Food Bank. The building’s brick exterior helped limit the spread of the fire, according to officials. No injuries were reported, and the fire marshal continues to investigate.

Trail Linking Marsh Creek to Eagle Village to Pass Through Windsor Christian Academy

EAGLE, PA — Windsor Christian Academy has unveiled plans to support a trail expansion project that will connect Marsh Creek State Park directly to Eagle Village, using the corner of its campus as a new access point. The section of the property involved in the project is currently undergoing renovations, with upgrades expected to be completed soon. This connection is set to improve access for walkers and cyclists, linking a major natural destination with a key residential and commercial hub. School officials say they look forward to welcoming the community to the space once work is finished.

Chester County’s Project RECONNECT Recognized for Workforce Development Impact

EXTON, PA — The Chester County Economic Development Council has been awarded the 2025 Silver Level Award for Excellence in Economic Development by the International Economic Development Council for its Project RECONNECT initiative. Recognized in the Post-Secondary Education Partnership category, the program supports students across Berks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties who are within a year of completing a degree or certificate but face obstacles such as unpaid tuition, child care, or transportation barriers.

Launched in 2023, Project RECONNECT has helped over 100 individuals complete their education, contributing to workforce development in the region. The council plans to expand the program and is exploring partnerships with employers and other economic development organizations. The award will be presented at the IEDC annual conference in September, where the program will be showcased as a case study in innovation and community impact.

Historic Night: Schwarber Blasts Four Homers, Phillies Crush Braves 19-4

PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a dominant performance, Kyle Schwarber hit four home runs and drove in nine runs as the Philadelphia Phillies routed the Atlanta Braves, 19-4, on Thursday night. Schwarber became the 21st player in MLB history—and just the fourth in Phillies history—to hit four homers in a single game. He now leads the National League with 49 home runs and all of baseball with 119 RBIs, both career highs.

Schwarber homered in the first, fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, hitting three of his long balls with runners on base. The outburst set a franchise record for RBIs in a game and helped the Phillies maintain momentum in their postseason chase.

Two New Ways for Local Businesses to Shine in the Downingtown Local Pulse

Downingtown is built on the strength of its small businesses — the shops, restaurants, services, and makers that give our community its unique character. Now, there are two new ways for those businesses to get in front of thousands of engaged local readers through the Downingtown Local Pulse.

We’re introducing two promotional programs designed to give businesses year-round visibility and meaningful connections with our audience:

1. Partner Program

This package gives businesses a featured listing in our Local Business Directory, making it easy for residents to find and support you. Partners also receive:

  • A monthly Business Spotlight article that tells your story.

  • A pinned article on our website for maximum visibility.

  • Exposure to our massive Facebook audience, with each feature shared across our highly engaged social channels.

2. Patron Program

For businesses ready to take their visibility to the next level, the Patron Program includes everything in the Partner Program plus:

  • A top-level ad placement one issue a month, ensuring your brand stays front and center.

Both programs are built to keep your business in the local conversation month after month — not just as an ad, but as a valued part of the community’s story.

Whether you’re a family-run shop, a growing startup, or a well-established local favorite, these programs offer an affordable way to boost your visibility while supporting the Downingtown Local Pulse’s mission to celebrate the people and businesses that make our town special.

Building Business by Building Trust: Free Trade Networking’s Local Impact

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — In this episode, Jenny Leigh sits down with Pat Dicola, the visionary behind Free Trade Networking. Launched during the pandemic, Free Trade has grown from a small Zoom group into more than 30 in-person chapters across the region, including Downingtown. Unlike traditional networking groups, Free Trade emphasizes collaboration over quotas, one-member-per-category chapters, and strong ties to local nonprofits. The result is a community of small business owners who not only support each other but also give back—making Free Trade a fast-growing hub for both business and service in Chester County.
