$4,500 Grant Supports Youth and Family Wellness in Downingtown

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Communities That Care of Greater Downingtown has secured a $4,500 grant from CCRES to enhance its youth prevention and mental health programming. The funding aims to support the organization’s ongoing collaboration with area schools, police departments, faith-based institutions, and youth-serving groups. Through these partnerships, CTC provides access to events, resources, and interventions focused on substance use prevention and emotional well-being. The grant allows the nonprofit to further strengthen its evidence-based approach to building healthier and more resilient communities.
Affordable Housing Summit Calls for Broader Partnerships in Chester County

WEST CHESTER, PA — At the fourth annual Affordable Housing Summit, Chester County officials and housing advocates focused on a new model called “YIGBY” — Yes In God’s Back Yard — which partners with faith-based organizations to develop affordable housing on underused church land. Organized by the County Commissioners and Allies for Housing, the summit featured a cross-sector panel of developers, religious leaders, and policy experts who discussed practical strategies to expand the county’s housing inventory. Allies for Housing, founded in 2022, aims to increase the availability of rental units for those earning 60 percent or less of the area median income, as part of a broader push for equitable, community-driven solutions to housing insecurity.
Five Municipalities Unite to Fund New Ambulance For Minquas EMS

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — A new ambulance funded by East Caln, Downingtown, Caln, West Bradford, and East Brandywine Townships marks a historic first for Minquas EMS and sets a regional precedent for municipal support of emergency services. With only 1 in 5 EMS agencies statewide receiving local funding, the initiative is rare and signals a shift in how communities value public safety. The ambulance, designated 46-3, is fully equipped with modern emergency technology and represents a broader commitment to improving response times and care across the region.
West Chester Council Opens Public Comment to Non-Residents After Policy Debate

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester Borough Council has revised its public comment policy to allow residents, taxpayers, and visitors to speak during meetings. The unanimous decision follows a two-month debate sparked by a June incident where a non-resident was barred from addressing council. Legal interpretation of the borough’s charter previously limited comments to residents, but officials have now expanded the definition of who qualifies as a “citizen.” The move brings West Chester in line with broader democratic norms, and supporters argue it promotes transparency and public engagement. Some council members initially hesitated but ultimately supported the change, citing constitutional principles and the value of open dialogue.
Two New Ways for Local Businesses to Shine in the Downingtown Local Pulse

Downingtown is built on the strength of its small businesses — the shops, restaurants, services, and makers that give our community its unique character. Now, there are two new ways for those businesses to get in front of thousands of engaged local readers through the Downingtown Local Pulse.
We’re introducing two promotional programs designed to give businesses year-round visibility and meaningful connections with our audience:
1. Partner Program
This package gives businesses a featured listing in our Local Business Directory, making it easy for residents to find and support you. Partners also receive:
A monthly Business Spotlight article that tells your story.
A pinned article on our website for maximum visibility.
Exposure to our massive Facebook audience, with each feature shared across our highly engaged social channels.
2. Patron Program
For businesses ready to take their visibility to the next level, the Patron Program includes everything in the Partner Program plus:
A top-level ad placement one issue a month, ensuring your brand stays front and center.
Both programs are built to keep your business in the local conversation month after month — not just as an ad, but as a valued part of the community’s story.
Whether you’re a family-run shop, a growing startup, or a well-established local favorite, these programs offer an affordable way to boost your visibility while supporting the Downingtown Local Pulse’s mission to celebrate the people and businesses that make our town special.
