UPS Driver Suffers Cardiac Arrest on Route; Downingtown Business Steps In to Save Him

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Stephen Bloomer, a UPS driver in Downingtown, collapsed from cardiac arrest while making a delivery last week. He was discovered by employees at If It’s Water Inc., where he regularly delivered, and was given CPR by a critical care nurse who coincidentally arrived at the scene. Bloomer was airlifted to Jefferson Hospital, where he remains in intensive care with significant paralysis. His family and community are preparing for a long recovery journey, with his UPS coworkers launching a GoFundMe to support him.
Caln Township Launches Memorial Bench Program With Eco-Focused Startup

CALN TWP — Jahaco, a new business focused on creating outdoor furniture from recycled materials, has launched a Memorial Bench Program aimed at honoring loved ones while promoting eco-conscious community development. The program allows individuals to dedicate benches in public spaces, with Caln Township becoming the first municipality to adopt the initiative. Each bench includes a custom plaque and full installation. Community members can participate and learn more about the project through an online portal.
Unseen Labor of Pennsylvania’s Iron Past Comes to Light at Warwick Park

POTTSTOWN, PA — On September 6, Chester County Parks + Preservation will present a free public program delving into the lesser-known labor history of Pennsylvania’s early iron industry. Historian Dan Graham will examine how iron masters in the 18th century relied on a diverse and often exploited workforce—including indentured servants, redemptioners, enslaved people, and British prisoners of war. The 90-minute session, held at Warwick County Park, aims to highlight the human cost behind one of the region’s foundational industries. Pre-registration is required to attend.
Borough Residents Invited to Join Zoning Hearing Board

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown is currently accepting applications for two alternate positions on its Zoning Hearing Board. These alternates step in with full voting rights when regular board members are unavailable, participating in decisions related to zoning variances, special exceptions, and appeals of zoning officer interpretations. The board meets the third Thursday of each month as necessary, and service is open to all residents of the Borough. Those interested can apply via the Borough’s Volunteer page.
Two New Ways for Local Businesses to Shine in the Downingtown Local Pulse

Downingtown is built on the strength of its small businesses — the shops, restaurants, services, and makers that give our community its unique character. Now, there are two new ways for those businesses to get in front of thousands of engaged local readers through the Downingtown Local Pulse.
We’re introducing two promotional programs designed to give businesses year-round visibility and meaningful connections with our audience:
1. Partner Program
This package gives businesses a featured listing in our Local Business Directory, making it easy for residents to find and support you. Partners also receive:
A monthly Business Spotlight article that tells your story.
A pinned article on our website for maximum visibility.
Exposure to our massive Facebook audience, with each feature shared across our highly engaged social channels.
2. Patron Program
For businesses ready to take their visibility to the next level, the Patron Program includes everything in the Partner Program plus:
A top-level ad placement one issue a month, ensuring your brand stays front and center.
Both programs are built to keep your business in the local conversation month after month — not just as an ad, but as a valued part of the community’s story.
Whether you’re a family-run shop, a growing startup, or a well-established local favorite, these programs offer an affordable way to boost your visibility while supporting the Downingtown Local Pulse’s mission to celebrate the people and businesses that make our town special.
